Fair enough. Don’t worry I’m confident there will still be nice places to eat in 17 years.

I love it here but for like 97% of the people on this board anywhere that isn't trumpland is a shithole

new orleans wishes it could be austin

don't know that it's the best place to live in america though. housing is obscenely expensive, though there are tons of opportunities here to make a great living so maybe it evens out.

I was referring to them being overcrowded and full of litter. Sure there are spots that get crowded but they're easy to avoid. And no clue what you are talking about regarding the trails being full of litter.

This year I ran out at Lake Georgetown, Riverplace, Lady Bird, and McKinney Falls. They were clean and looked great. Lady Bird is a little different because it’s a bit more urban. Passed very few people. That being said, I was running in 90+ degree heat mostly so I’m sure the slobs weren’t out and about trashing the place up.

I’ll trash Austin all day for the hippies, leftist idiocy, traffic and costs, but they do a great job with their trail upkeep for hiking, running, and bikes.

Hooray. A thread where a bunch of people living in Baton Rouge can talk about how shitty Austin is.

You forget that this is the same board that constantly talks about how shitty California is, while they are living in Houma or New Iberia lol. California is one of the most beautiful states I’ve ever seen and people here talk like it’s Jonesboro, Arkansas.

To the OP: I lived there for a year. Pretty great city but it’s crowded. High COL. Would have been great to get in on it early. Your house would be worth almost triple what you paid for it.

I like it, but I think it's become too crowded, and has lousy traffic.

Yup.

I have family out there. They cashed out last year and moved to the burbs.

Gonna have to stop you there. If you prefer Austin that’s fine, but I promise New Orleans doesn’t wish it was Austin or any other city. We’re good with who we are and unlike Austin, NOLA has somewhat resisted gentrification and in doing so it’s not the shell of what it was at its best like Austin is.

We used to say “Don’t Dallas my Austin”, but it’s been Dallased, just walk down east 6th for proof.

As far as you or any other tigerdroppings keyboard warrior who think endless high rise condos and cookie cutter corporate culture is the apex of society is concerned, yes.

Lived in Austin for almost 3 years and have lived in NOLA way longer.

I like Austin, but it sold its soul years ago. NOLA hasn’t done that.

I hate the Dallas cookie-cutter burbs as much as anyone but to claim that New Orleans even remotely has its shite together is a ridiculous statement. It’s worse than Baltimore. Probably on par with Detroit. NO is one of the most unsafe cities in America.

I get what you’re trying to say about NO not losing its identity but they have a ton of issues that they can clean up without losing identity. There’s some aspects of the New Orleans identity that desperately need to go away

Sure you can go hiking right outside of Austin and see 30 people on the same beaten down trail and look out over a small hill. Muhha.

I mean the hill country isn’t Alaska or the Rockies but it is when compared to the shitty swamps of Louisiana.

I do get what you’re saying, but NOLA isn’t exactly lacking in gentrification.

And Austin has a better job market, better schools, less crime, better infrastructure, etc. personally I’d take that over “soul” when choosing a place to live. But that’s just me.

I didn’t say that. The poster I was responding to said NOLA wishes it was Austin. It doesn’t.

There’s a reason we gravitate towards cookie cutter neighborhoods and condos, regardless of race.

It is indicative of stable people in your same socioeconomic status.

There’s charm and culture to NO and Austin. When I think of them both, I think of their downtown culture, not their sprawling suburbs. While I like the culture of both, I also associate them with crime, the smell of broken dreams and urine, panhandlers, and am reminded that I don’t want to live in that every day.
