I went to private school all my life. When we were in 6th and and 7th grade, I think, we took some standardized test. It might have been younger. Does anyone remember what this was or why we took it? It was a national test. I just remember scoring in the 98th or 99th percentile and being asked to take the ACT in 7th grade as a result as well as being invited to "audition" for some creativity class where I had to draw whatever I wanted when presented with a shape, or something. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? This was about 20 years ago now.

Was the Duke tests. IIRC, it was a couple of standardized tests. A good bit of people have taken that, so it's no accomplishment.

If they asked me to draw something, it would be a penis and vagina

Would this be like two separate objects in a drawing? Or, would this be like one drawing that if you looked at it one way, it was a penis, then if you looked at it a different way, it was a vagina? Like the leg spinning .gif. Because that would be thinking on a different level and you would probably score pretty high. I think they give out trophies for that kind of thinking.

I've taken 3-4 pretty serious psych/IQ tests/evals over the course of my career, some of the drills were pretty wild, scores for each were almost identical in every area

If you had a higher IQ, you wouldn't have to ask.

That's the female in her, not the smart

That is it. That rings a bell. Obviously there is no accomplishment in taking a test. Every single person in my grade was required to take the test. It's not like some people were selected for it.

the Duke thing is not something that is required.

they take people who scored a certain percentage on the Iowa/CAT tests and invite them to take part

In ~1995, everyone in my class took it. I don't recall the CAT test. Is that a public school thing?

CAT was public school. Also the LEAP test. Around freshman year, I was also invited to take a pre-ACT test. Those were the only tests I remember being administered outside of the gifted program.

What do you mean you can't see it for another 9 months? I can't think of any compelling reason to withhold resting for 2+ years.

Interested to see what it says. I've known my IQ since I was younger but since this one was the most recent I'm curious to see how accurate it is.
Well intelligence tends to stabilize around 2nd grade. There may be differences due to measurment error and test differences since it's an estimate of intelligence there is some variability. That being said, provided that standardization was followed and the examiner was in his/her normal state (i.e., nothing that would drastically impact performance), the results should be valid.

I think what you are describing are the salient super-geniuses (Mozart, Einstein) who also posses other traits that contributed to their success (e.g., motivation, work-ethic).

I see Intelligence similar to athletic ability in that it is latent (can't be directly measured) and innate. Clearly we don't need to measure anything to see that LeBron, Adrian Peterson, etc. are athletic, but that doesn't mean the bar of athleticism is set at their level. Furthermore, those other traits allow then to maximize their ability to reach that level of performance, but that may be somewhat confused as athletic ability alone. Just like Einstein wasn't Einstein based on intelligence alone.

Yeah, I like to think that I'm pretty much the smartest person in the world. It's just that I'm really lazy. That's why it's not that obvious
