The useful thing is problem-solving abilities, and prior knowledge of areas helps a whole lot with that

You're 14 "points" above a standardized average on a test only really proven to predict outcomes in school for children.
You'll likely never join MENSA. That's about all that can be said now.

My wife scores out above 160. She is scary smart but, is very difficult to communicate with.
Wow, I bet it would be hard communicating with a 160 plus. Better base your relationship around sex. I tested low 140's and the difference is astronomical between a low 140s to >160 IQ
Scored a 680 on my GMAT (84th percentile)

Some are antisocial, some are assholes because they know they are smart, some are cool and just like to argue, a lot like to get fricked up, and some are completely functional. All depends on the person's upbringing

Richard Feynman scored around 125, and he was one of the most brilliant men who ever lived. The Feynman algorithm for problem solving went like this. Write down the problem. Think about it a while. Write down the answer.
OTOH, Marilyn vos Savant scored above 200, and she ain't done shite beyond write a column for Parade.

There is actually tons of research around the IQ test concerning these types of questions. I can see that you are dumb, so I'll save you some trouble; results are inconclusive.

I've seen the 130 is genius statement before and that is BS. I've scored as high as 154 and am not a genius. But I don't fully trust the test (online) that gave me that score. I was in gifted classes, so I believe I've taken legitimate tests that put me over 130 (took multiple days. Was in 4th grade so don't remember any actual score). I had many other gifted classmates who definitely weren't geniuses either. I think the genius we think of is up in the 180+ range.

quote:It is somewhat arbitrary, but 130 corresponds to 2 standard decisions above the mean and outs one ~ the 98th percentile. Conversely 2 standard deviations below the way is the IQ score corresponding to an Intellectual Disability (along with some other criteria).

quote:Not all states require a 130 for gifted classes. Typically they asses other areas as well (e.g., creativity). Although either way, students in gifted scored very high.

Learn to live in mediocrity and you'll be OK

Yeah, it's probably around the 160 mark

Yeah those scores are not legitimate.
I know these aren't close to what the real test was like (they timed me building puzzles and stuff in addition to an actual written test for the real one). Our gifted teacher used to have us take them every once in a while for kicks. It was more of a competition between the people in the class than actually getting a legitimate score.

It's hard for me to wrap my head around that number, but I don't think there are all that many people who I consider a "genius". Incredibly smart people who just blow through MIT or Med School..... yes, there are thousands. I think of genius as a kid graduating college at 16 and stuff. Someone who can teach themselves advanced calculus with no outside help. Who is not just smarter than most, but whose brain can comprehend things that even very intelligent people can never understand. I don't think there are all that many in the world.
And I'm not taking away from those incredibly smart people. They are incredible as well. It's more of a way for me to differentiate between the normal, the smart, the super smart, and the "how the f**k can they do that"

That seems kind of low. Are you sure that's right? Oh well, the world needs ditch diggers.

I took a very long IQ test a year and a half ago that I'm not allowed to see for another 9 months or so.
Interested to see what it says. I've known my IQ since I was younger but since this one was the most recent I'm curious to see how accurate it is.

Online tests are utterly worthless. It only counts if conducted in person by a professional. The 130 being genius is what the lady who conducted mine told me. I get much higher on those online tests, but those are utter bullshite.

I'll gladly compare GMAT scores. I got a 700. I do not know what percentile it is, but I do know it is just the average for getting into Harvard's MBA program.

My IQ in 6th grade was 136. My IQ freshmen year of college was 136. And my GRE score correlates to an IQ of 137. Fairly accurate. What is annoying was my ACT score where I made 33 in math but low 20's in reading (somehow) which would lend to the idea that there are different IQ's. So really, outside of an academic setting, your IQ may not be important at all if you have other talents.
The ACT is a joke. I took it twice, freshman and sophomore year. I left after only answering a couple of questions in the science section, because I didn't think I was going to break 29 again and had better shite to do.
I got a 29 with a 6 or 7 in Science haha. That being said, I barely qualified for LSU based on the writing section, but then clepped out of English based on another writing assignment.
IQ Tests just strike me as a confirmation bias type thing. Someone intelligent gets a high IQ score and succeed and people go OMG SEE IT WORKS, and if they flame out, its because of HE'S SO SMART HE'S GOT ANTI-SOCIAL ISSUES and shite instead of hey, maybe IQ just isn't the best at telling that sort of thing.
It doesn't measure some of the most important attributes in life. Can you pick yourself up after failing, do you know how to communicate with other human beings, and can you at least be a tolerable a-hole.
