We know he thinks he's smarter than everyone else and that he's charming and manipulative. I guess it's possible that he thinks he can win this himself?
quote:
Multiple media outlets are reporting that disbarred South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh will take the stand in his own defense – assuming a Covid-19 outbreak on the jury doesn’t cause a mistrial in this high-profile double homicide case.
The move – which would be incredibly risky – was reported almost simultaneously on Monday afternoon by Andrew Davis of WSAV TV-3 (NBC – Savannah) and Riley Benson of WCBD TV-2 (NBC – Charleston, S.C.). Both Davis and Benson cited a “source close to the defense” in their almost simultaneous tweets breaking the news (here and here).
To recap: Murdaugh stands accused of killing his wife, 52-year-old Maggie Murdaugh, and youngest son, 22-year-old Paul Murdaugh, on his family’s hunting property in Colleton County, S.C. on June 7, 2021. He pleaded not guilty to those charges and is currently standing trial in Walterboro – a town located in the Lowcountry region of the Palmetto State, a place Murdaugh’s family ran like a fiefdom for more than a century.

Wow surprised by that if true. He’s been practicing his crying often throughout the trial so far, maybe he figures he can nail it.

Prolly not a good move for him.

He looks like he’s been googling “how to look sad during your murder trial.”

LINK
This link shows videos of the crime scene. It includes the body cam from the first officer on the scend and twenty additional minutes. The blurs are where the bodies were and some of the action is removing the sheets from over the bodies and replacing them.
I didn't see any blood on either sheet, but I didn't watch that whole video. Had the blood dried?
THe other thing that I think has been overlooked was how darned dark it was. Even with the sheriff's cars' headlights, and some of the fluorescent lights in the farm buildings, it was just out in the country feel to it, (The I can't see five feet from where the edge of the light stops I wonder where the skunks are tonight).
For all we've heard and seen about that night, the video adds dimensions to what they could see and what they couldn't.

interesting there are reports saying he will take the stand
as soon as the judge ruled to let in the financial crime testimony in... Rekieta said everything's already out there so he might as well take the stand
seems like the defense team may agree

You don't take the stand as a defendant if you think you are currently winning the trial.

He's a dumbass. Most likely thinks he's the smartest guy in the room, and will fail.

This is what needs to happen. But I’m not counting my chickens before they hatch.

The only way you put him on the stand is if you’re his defense lawyer and if the closing arguments were tomorrow you believe the verdict would be guilty.
The son’s phone video where AM talks in the background will be too much for him to overcome.

All I know about blood is that it can be pretty unpredictable especially (and maybe obviously) compared to traditional and Hollywoodesque thinking. I would guess that: given the severity of the wounds, blood loss and time till processing, the bulk of the blood otherwise present may have drained down.

So much has been made about the prevalence of circumstantial evidence and minimal direct evidence. I think if AM takes the stand it will almost reverse the situation in that he is going to be grilled on all that, he will explain it away but as he does so he’s basically showcasing the mountain of evidence.
Even if his delivery is perfect. The thought process of the trier of fact will be “wow, what a coincidence that he has some oddball answer for all of this?” And if his delivery is less than perfect, he’s focked.

We already know his alibi is broken and lied. He also tried to convince others to change their story. The State will bury him on that. Between that and the financial stuff, he has lost any credibility. When you prove to be liar, it is hard to convince people otherwise.
The Defense will spend all of their time having him trying to convince the jury how much he was a loving father and husband. Along with unlimited crying. In all honesty, I think there is a 50/50 chance that he will be found guilty or there will be a hung jury. That’s without him taking the stand. For the defense, I think it is risky and could backfire. Then again, it might convince that one juror they need. Part of me thinks if the defense is thinking about this means they are deeply worried or believe their witnesses are not going to be strong enough. It will be interesting to see how it develops if it does happen

I used to think that until Kyle rittenhouse trial. After that trial, his lawyer said quote “if you don’t put your client on the stand in Wisconsin, you will lose.” It may be state by state

How close the shooter was to the two dead Murdaughs, (from the Daily Mail)
I can't imagine Maggie getting that close to a stranger. If they had been getting threats, they would have been so much more careful. To me it sounds as if she was shot by some one on an adrenalin high after two shots to kill her son. Then kill her deader than dead. Why?
quote:
Jurors were today shown images of the grisly scene as coroner Riemer talked them through the injuries Maggie and Paul suffered.
She explained that Paul could have remained standing after the first shotgun blast to his chest, but that a second shot blew his brain out the back of his head.
The 22-year-old's brain arrived at the autopsy in a separate bucket, the court heard.
The fact that Paul's face remained intact tells you he was facing his shooter, Riemer testified.
She said Maggie's first two wounds featured gunpowder stippling, indicating her shooter was no more than three feet away. The first three rounds were not immediately fatal, striking her thigh and torso.
The direction of travel indicates Maggie was kneeling on all fours when she was struck by the fourth shot, which passed through the left side of her breast and penetrated her brain.
'When it entered the left side of the face, it basically destroyed the brain,' Riemer told jurors.
A final shot was delivered to the back of the head from close range as she was lying on the ground, the coroner said.
No murder weapon has ever been

It was confirmed that neither was in or showed any defensive posture. The Defense has argued a good amount of times that both showed some sort of defensive posture. They have tried avoiding what the autopsy found. I think that pretty much assumes that the killer was someone they knew. Also, the first two shots on Maggie was within 3 feet. I just don’t buy that she would run up on a stranger. It was very sad hearing how they got shot and what each shot did to both.

Out of all the financial testimonies, the Satterfield case shows how much a POS AM really is.
This has gotten to me the most. He screwed over 1 special needs kid, and his obviously naive brother for 100k each, and let their mother’s mobile home be repossessed, while he took millions from them.
The poor Satterfield boy was still waiting for his money while AM had already stolen it from them 2 years prior. The special needs son had to move in with relatives.
What an absolute slug.
And while the rational side of me says that the prosecution’s argument of motive is that AM wanted to take the pressure off of himself via sympathy for his losses is flimsy, I see what he did to those 2 boys, and I figure he is capable of blowing his son’s brains out.
Jesus, the pathologist say that Paul’s brains came to her lab in a separate bucket. Who the hell does that to their own kid?

About Paul's brain:
The second shot detached his brain from his body,it flew through the air, hit the ceiling of the feed room, and then landed on the floor.
It that wouldn't have the shooter puking his guts out, I don't understand people.
The treatment of the Housekeeper's sons made me ill when it was gone over without the jury being seated. I had missed their loss of home.
Are they letting prisoners where Alex is currently residing watch the proceedings?

Dr. Ellen Riemer, the MUSC forensic pathologist who performed Maggie and Paul’s autopsies, will be on the stand for cross-examination when court resumes at 9:30 am.
Dr. Riemer did an excellent job yesterday explaining and going through everything. I think Poot will be doing the cross.
