I used to think that until Kyle rittenhouse trial. After that trial, his lawyer said quote “if you don’t put your client on the stand in Wisconsin, you will lose.” It may be state by state

Pretty different scenario though, practically opposites, as that trial hinged a lot on Kyle as a good kid with good intentions and his attorneys were pretty sure that would come across. Here, AM is weird, a lot to dislike right off the bat, and has a lot of mental issues and craziness so whatever benefit of the doubt he may get could be destroyed by testifying.
IMO.

Does Alex have to be there?
If not I wonder if it would play out better if he skipped these segments.
If I was in his shoes I wouldn’t want to hear all this if I was innocent. And seeing his constant grief-anguish face gets old, decreases the effectiveness.
IMO.

? He has a right to face his accusers. He’s on trial for murder. Yes he has the right to be there.

Ellen Rimer returned to the stand for Cross examination

Dr. Ellen Riemer began describing her findings Monday using graphic color photos of the autopsies, which she performed. Our reporters inside the courtroom said jurors were visibly moved by the images and descriptions.

had missed their loss of home.

That was on the Mandy Matney podcast with Eric Bland.
And I know that my post was sort of backassward, because if a guy can kill his wife and son, he can embezzle, but I guess I’m sort of thinking that he did the killings because he panicked, and he was in full survival mode, whereas stealing from those 2 kids, was just cold, calculated, callous disregard-like they should be happy with the 200k-that that was good enough for them.

Also, I wonder exactly how much Murdaugh was using opioids. I’m thinking that he wasn’t doing much at all-just another play to get sympathy.

No, I meant can he choose to not be there.

The son’s phone video where AM talks in the background will be too much for him to overcome.

Has there been any indication how the defense is gonna play that yet? Are they gonna deny its him in the background or are they gonna say he got the timing confused or what?

Hearing his voice on the call is pretty damning. The only way out seems to be to say that there was someone else there, like Cousin Eddie, who did the shooting, but that still leaves him as an accessory, if not also a shooter.

No one has alleged two shooters yet.

I do not believe the idiot had a true opiod addiction. NO way he would maintained functioning as a prolific attorney without others suspecting drug use. I do not buy that excuse.

Me neither. It is just an excuse he used to place blame on something else instead of taking full responsibility.

Maggie's sister on the stand. I wonder if we will hear anything about her wanting to leave AM.

ETA - so far, nothing of the sort.

ETA 2 - getting spicy now

AM told the sister that "whoever did this must have thought about it for a really long time."

AM told the sister that he never went to the kennels.

The sister thought it was odd that Maggie didn't go with AM to see his parents because that was the whole reason AM asked her to come to Moselle.

Everyone was afraid of retribution for the boat case but Alex didn't seem to be afraid.

Getting Buster back to law school was a priority for Alex after the murders.

Alex said he wanted to clear Paul's name (in the boat case) after the murders but the sister wanted to find out who killed Maggie and Paul.

The judge is about to rule on whether the defense opened the door to allowing the roadside incident and fidelity issues to come in.

Also, since the defense atty doing cross is the one that told the sister about AM losing his job, the judge asked if he might be called as a witness.

Yes to roadside incident. No to fidelity concerns (too far back in time)

Also brought in the fact that Paul would search the house for AM's pain pills...

To me, It sounds like that Maggie’s sister started to believe AM had something to do with the murders after the roadside mess. The way she said how their perception changed after the roadside and financial stuff came out.

Yeah well this is a huge flaw in Alex’s story.

The defense is going to have to explain why Alex didn’t take Maggie with him to visit his Dad - when that was the entire reason she drove down there?

Next thing we know - Alex goes to visit his mom (alone) instead of visiting his dad
