They need to add Mountain Dew and spread to the rest of the country. Would be a goldmine.

This is a disturbing trend that I think will have long-term negative effects.

If they are inviting friends over and cooking/dining/watching movies at home, as opposed to an expensive dinner out and night at the movies, I applaud this trend. Nothing wrong with being frugal, especially since these millennials have student loan debt coming out of their ears.

If they are doing this by themselves because they are anti-social, then yeah, this might have long term issues.

Agreed. And I think it is the latter.

these trends are resulting in huge attendance decreases at everything from sporting events, to museums, to plays, to concerts, etc.

Because these things are all corporatized and set up to fleece you at every single turn. Hopefully it drives the entire current owner situation out of everything completely and then maybe someone who won't bend you over at every single chance can take over.

To me the financial aspect is a big factor. A lot of Millennials simply don't have the extra income to afford for going out. Between student debt, stagnant wage growth, and high rental cost, there just isn't much fun money left over.

That's not what's happening. These people rarely leave the house at all, don't have ladies and aren't fricking anyone.

Yep, nobody 20-35 is fricking anymore.

And that's the driving factor behind the article. The same generation that's responsible for the crappy economic situation is now crying because "the damn kids won't spend enough of their money on me."

No, the article is written by a millennial in a millennial publication.

Going out is expensive. As much as I would like to go to bars and clubs, I would rather save the money and buy pizza, a six pack of beer and watch a movie at home. We save going out for special occaisions. Or at the least, limit it to just a couple of times per month.

ETA: We do want to check out some piano bars, so we might start doing that a little.

Point stands

quote:

“Wages are down, exploitation is up,” Harris says. “A heavy divergence between productivity and the wage rate is what characterizes the millennial experience more than anything. Being exploited, that’s going to make you want to stay home.”

is this where I am supposed to apologize for having a pimped out living room that is bought and paid for with endless entertainment options along with being fiscally responsible and adding money to my savings, retirement, and vacation accounts?

because $8-14 dollar drinks are supposed to be competitive with a $35 bottle of bourbon

35 dollars for a chicken breast covered in some glaze with a side of asparagus and mash potatoes + 20-35% tip and taxes is supposed to be better than a 4 pack of thick cut prime NY strips

10-20 dollar you have a penis cover charge just to get into a building to spend money for yourself and potentially other people for one night or Netflix and Hulu's entire library for a month?

Its odd that every girl on tinder wants to "go on adventures" that apparently they can't afford.

I think you’re missing the point. Staying in and never leaving the house is not really healthy if you’re a young adult. Shutting yourself off from the world does not help develop valuable social skills.

Absolutely this.

Y’all want me and my generation to go out and socialize at events, but the cost is astronomical. $150/person for a concert ticket plus the excess fees from Ticketmaster. Hundreds of dollars for two people to attend an NFL game with parking, drinks, and tickets. Why do that when we can have just as much if not more of enjoyable time at home or in nature doing something cheap with friends?

Poor quality and price hikes have caused attendance to go down.

Someone should have told me this a long time ago. I would have been out partying and getting drunk every night if I knew that was a good thing.

Sitting at home, drinking and eating ice cream will produce fatasses who have strokes and heart attacks in their 40s.

You're missing the point. Being at home doesn't equal being alone. Last night I had 6 or so buddies over and we played Mario kart on the game cube and drank beers. Cost me about 10 bucks
