Did the kid die of Covid or simply have Covid and die of something else?

Probably RSV was the culprit but tested positive for Covid.

How fat was the infant? Did the infant have high blood pressure? If the infant was completely healthy its a story created by the government in order to scare people into taking the vaccine.

First pediatric Covid death in 6 months for Louisiana

The fact it can made a headline because it’s so rare shows the ludicrous nature of this entire thing

Thousands of infants die everyday around the world. Why are you choosing to make a posts about this ONE particular child? Seems it may be part of an agenda.

This is terrible and I'm probably just reading too much into it, but this feels like the people writing the headline were excited

Trust me, the Advocate was happy to have this as their top story on their website. And the writer who wrote the story was happy to write it. Not because an infant died, but because it gave him another platform to push masks/vaccines, etc.

His name is Blake Paterson and the tone of all of his articles is very slanted. He is angry that people aren't wearing masks and it shows in his writing.

Here is his story list. All Covid, all bad news, all anger. LINK

And yes, I know that I can quit reading at any moment. But I choose to read his articles and most of the rest of the crap on the Advocate not to glean information, but more as a game to see if I can find the writers displaying their agendas in the articles.

An example from Paterson:

quote:

But outside of emergency rooms and ICUs, it often seems like the public-health emergency is over. Thousands of students are returning to in-person learning; bars and restaurants are packed like sardines; and this Saturday, American Idol’s Laine Hardy will hold a concert at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.

He just sounds so angry. All of his writing is like this. I liked when journalism was a craft where reporters presented us with facts and allowed us to make our own determination. That craft died a long time ago.

Wow, given our population and the fact that only ~370 kids have died in the past 1,5 years to COVID, I bet this is maybe on the 3rd or 4th infant death in the state.

It's always sad when a child dies. However, there needs to be some level-headedness to this as well. According to the LDH website ( LINK), there have been 11 children ages 17 years and younger that have, unfortunately, passed away from Covid. There have been 98,130 cases in that same age group for a whopping 0.01% mortality rate in children. For comparison, RSV has a mortality rate .05% to 1.7% or 50 - 170 times greater ( LINK).

My wife (no pics) tests people every day for Covid, and just yesterday had a lady's child test positive, and the mother started sobbing thinking it was a death sentence. The JBE administration really needs to be less in to the scare tactics when it comes to kids getting Covid (I know...big ask). With the current Delta variant, JBE's administration should be advising parents to be 50 - 170 times more worried about RSV than Covid.

It does not change the headline one bit.

You are right. This is horrible.

If you learned empathy in your life, your post should have ended right after horrible.

No shock JBE is going to twist this poor child's death to keep his bullshite going.

The Tennessee Dem party is pushing this ”we are killing kids” refrain too. A letter they released today talks about a “dramatic 50% rise in deaths among those under 20 in the last month”.

I know, 50% is a huge number. What they aren’t saying is that means the number of those under 20 in the state that have died from COVID went from 10 last month to 15 now.

15 deaths in 18 months. The last “full” flu season saw more than 80 people in this age group died. (2018-2019 flu season)

The infant probably led an irresponsible life of glut and didn’t get rid of his baby fat quick enough like an OT infant would.

We just spent the last 3 days at Arkansas Children’s with my 8 month old son as a patient. He got sick last week and tested negative for everything-covid, RSV, flu. Went back and had him tested again because he was getting worse and the symptoms looked so much like RSv and covid. Had lab work, nothing.

Saturday rolls around and he goes downhill, having trouble breathing. We get to ER, they took him right back after checking pulse ox of 83. They ran a full viral PCR panel and turns out he had some weird arse virus that is similar to RSV but I’d never once heard of—Human Metapneumovirus. Anyway, it whipped his little butt and we were so thankful for the wonderful staff there.

Now, that hospital was full of little covid patients. Not only do I call on ACH and it’s my biggest account, but I spoke with the nurses on our floor about their staffing shortage and increased strain, which is what my customers had already told me was going on. They practically kicked us out to make room for more patients. They’re seeing more and more critically ill little people who aren’t old enough for the vaccine. Sure, some might have asthma or other health issues, but there are plenty of “healthy” patients without other comorbidities that contribute to becoming sicker with covid.

All this to say—I’m certain that they tested that baby for RSV. The hospital would not be releasing that information without including what they had (say like covid plus RSV) because that is irresponsible. The hospitals aren’t the ones sensationalizing as much as the media.

1) I’m not a liar, in the least. You’re just obtuse and fighting with an idiot is a waste of my time.
2) I didn’t know the thread was anchored until I posted and noticed it didn’t get bumped.
3) screw off. People like you are truly miserable and one of the main reasons I generally avoid this message board.
