re: The ATL Thread - 8/21 - Ace vs Ace

And watching Contreras go 4-4, knowing AA thought .110 hitting Murphy was a better fit just pisses me off to no end.

I know it’s a long season, but in a big spot at the end of the game, WTF is Acuna doing smiling and joking with Contreras for? You need to be ultra focused there. It’s like Ronald was taking a third inning spring training AB with that mindset.

What a terrible AB by Ronald

I don’t think Weiss is going to let him finish if he still has a shot at it. 80 pitches and he had a bit of a tough sixth inning.
A big inning here would help the decision making.

Riley having a good day. Even on his strikeout, he took the pitcher 9 pitches.

When the Pirates left town the first weekend in June, we were 45-21. We’ve gone 29-32 since. Yet AA saw no need to address the glaring issues in any serious manner at the deadline.

Holy shite. That pitch was way out and Riley has no confidence to challenge.

This team needed a major shakeup trade last offseason, but they ran it back. Now I think the entire core needs to be blown up. This team is old, slow, and entirely dependent on home runs yet again. The World Series window with this group has slammed shut.
I completely agree.

Bradley is the best of the guys they’ve started. Gets a lot of swing and miss and his ERA was sub 4 starting this game. I’m a little biased since he’s the 4th starter on my fantasy league behind Skubal, Schlittler and Burns.

I didn’t realize just how much the Twins were playing for. The win tonight has them in a tie for the last wild card spot in the AL. There are SEVEN teams within 2 games of that spot.

AA knows he has job security. He's been asleep at the wheel the second Freddie caught the final out in 2021 and we still have fans now still trying to parade him as one of the best GMs in baseball. He's not going anywhere unfortunately.
Unfortunately, I don’t think you’re wrong. Lucking out by pushing the right buttons 5 years ago is certainly what he is living on.

Meanwhile, the lead is about to drop to 5.5 games. Knowing we will go nowhere in the playoffs, I “almost” hope for an implosion from the starters and we miss the playoffs altogether if it got rid of AA in the process.

Meanwhile, we are making another pitcher with an ERA over 5 look really good.

Certainly not the lockdown guy he was the first 2+ months. Interesting to see what happens when Suarez returns.

6 runs in his last 6.2 innings That covers his August appearances. Allowed runs in 4 of 7 outings.

Nah, we'll still have Sale going game 1 at home, so theoretically, we'd just have to split the next two.
Not sure our 2 and 3 (whoever that ends up being) would compare favorably to any playoff squad 2 and 3. And it’s criminal how little run support we give Sale.
Our best hope is that the 6 seed has had to use their horses just to get in the playoffs. We would have a distinct advantage then.
