Yetis are for the poor. Ballers have a Sovaro.

So it's designed to be a fricking ice chest. Got it.

Isn't it so much nicer to carry though? Last week on the beach, filled it up day one, poured water out added drinks and ice from freezer in condo each morning. Loved not having to lug that big arse cooler down and back each day. Perfect for the boat as well.

That's exactly why i got it.
I know it will last.
I know it won't leak like every bag cooler always does.
Easy to carry and still holds a good bit.
Good for the beach, boat, and golf.

but it still says it will hold ice for days, and that's just not true.
I would have never paid sticker price for it. I didn't even like paying $100 for it with my $200 gift card.

I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand. They're over-engineered so to speak. The OP seems disappointed that his YETI doesn't hold ice any better than his Igloo while he's constantly in and out of it getting drinks during the day. If you're doing that, you're not taking advantage of any of the things that are unique about a YETI or other similar ice chests. On the other hand, if you need a 70 quart ice chest that will be used in your boat and may have two people standing on it at a time while fishing, your Igloo won't do shite.

That isn't a knock on the Igloo or the YETI - my point is simply that they're designed for a different type of use. I'm not even advocating for the YETI as I use other, cheaper brands myself.

There is something to be said for the personal accountability that tends to come with a $300 bag-type ice chest too.

THEN WHATS THE DAMN POINT?

It can be handy if you're planning to take the ice chest out multiple days in a row.. your won't really melt overnight, so when you wake up you should have to refill with less ice. That's about it.. and that's why I also have a cheap Igloo.

I've had ice last more than six days when camping in my Yeti. A $30 igloo isn't gonna do that.

Obviously if you open it a shite ton the ice is going to melt. That's obvious.

Comparing a hard side to a soft side cooler isnt right. Hard side will win everytime.

Ive owned many $50 soft side coolers in my day. Ive had at least 8 of them. Every single one tears or leaks water at some point. The last one handle tore off as I carried it to the beach.

I got the Yeti soft side as a gift. I dont think this thing will ever leak or get torn up. It wont hold ice like a hard side but if it goes several summers and never leaks or tears, than i think its a good product.

College me would have really wanted a Yeti and would have convinced myself I needed one so I could be cool.

Adult, gainfully employed me realizes they're overpriced and impractical for my (and 99% of their purchasers) uses.

Give me my trashy arse Coleman/Igloo with wheels any day of the week.

It's not hard to understand. If I want a fishing platform/ice chest and wear a gator and such, I might get a Yeti. If I just want to keep shite cold, I'll use a Coleman. And if I'm trying to set a record for keeping ice (like I'm camping in Big Bend for a week) I'm bringing block ice and not opening those ice chests.

You metaphor was fricking stupid. Nobody buys an ice chest to set a record for how long they can keep ice in certain conditions.

I have a coleman that was my parents, It's from the 70s or early 80s and it holds ice for 3-5 days. WTF would I need to spend money on a yeti AND go through all this BS pre-conditioning for it to work only marginally better?

I filled one up with one bag of ice at noon this past Friday, drove to Mississippi, left it in my car all weekend, drove back home, and it was still cold and some of the ice cubes were still there.

I'm not reading this whole thread...but if you put some ice in the YETI prior to putting what you want in it, it will stay that way for DAYS.

I went to the beach, placed a bag of ice in my YETI on Wednesday night. Thursday at noon dumped out the ice and water, then refilled it with cold stuff and beer and 2 bags of ice...there was still ice in there on Sunday afternoon when we were leaving the beach. It it not remotely close to a fricking igloo

As someone else already said, 95% of people who buy them don't need them, but it doesn't mean they're useless. My metaphor had the same point. If you're not going to take advantage of the additional features, don't waste your money.

got one as a gift from my FiL and i *WANT* to believe its magic, but 24 hours after putting ice in it, its mostly water just like the igloo.

i'm probably doing it wrong but can some YETI person explain this to me?

its as bad as people acting like its magic when a yeti cup still has hot coffee in it 8 hours later when my thermos has been doing that for 40+ years.

They have their uses.

I strap mine to the back of my ATV when we go riding, dip it under the water and no muddy Sandy water gets in, all my other cheaper coolers dont seal like that and they let in nasty dirty arse water. Ain't nobody wants gritty beer.
