Pretty sure the company was formed by some guys that left Yeti.

Products look identical so they oughta work the same.

I doubt anybody is buying a cooler as a status symbol.

Better at what? Keeping ice when being opened regularly? I honestly don't know what you're referencing.

Cooler opened once a day to check ice level. Coleman still had a good bit of ice when the yeti was all water

first of all, I prefer K2 since they're based out of Lafayette. Secondly, I use my Yeti/K2 (whichever brand) as a boat seat and platform to stand on. I couldn't care less about ice longevity so the primary selling point for me is the durability. Between hunting, fishing, countless people standing/sitting on it, and just the number of times its slammed on the ground and in my truck bed, it is as durable as the day I got it. I've got 7 coolers at the camp and every single one not named Yeti or K2 has broken handles, broken hinges, missing plugs, etc and if I stand or sit on any of those, my 175lb body will make a dent in the lid. Say what you pussy boys want, but the fact is that roto molded ice chests, just like kayaks are durable and can stand the test of time, therefore my money is well spent.

I don't think it is a status symbol as much as it is incredible marketing. Any high-end ice chest is typically referred to as a Yeti - sort of like Q-Tip - and for all intents and purposes they were the first to market from a national standpoint.

If someone is going to buy an ice chest and money is no object, they're inclined to buy a Yeti for many reasons. I don't think it's as much keeping up with Joneses as it is perceived quality.

If you play world of Warcraft and sip fruity drinks on the beach, a YETI/K2/etc is not for you. It takes a man to own one.

Exactly.

I hate buying $89 coolers very 3 years.

All coolers have improved with ice retention, just on account of better insulation, but they still have crappy lids and handles.

Just consider it pre-heating for when we do the heat retention comparison test

I've seen various tests with different results, but I don't own any ice chests that will need to hold ice for longer than 3 days, so I don't get all caught up on the 5 day tests. I own a 100qt Brute (now Bison) because I wanted an ice chests that was light enough to pick up and put in between the compartments on my boat, but heavy enough to carry in the boat empty without the fear of losing a lid or the ice chest altogether. I also wanted something that could support my lard arse and the other lard asses that happen to be in my boat on a particular day.

There are without a doubt pros and cons for each class of ice chests. I have a relative POS that doesn't even have a drain, but it does have wheels, and that is a must have in some situations. I think many of these comparisons are pretty useless because most of us are going to use them for different things. I've said as much this entire thread.

I bought a 10x10 walk in freezer from restaurant supply to pre cool my Yeti cooler and tumblers. You probably didn't pre freeze it like recommended is all I can guess.

I have a 35 qt Yeti and a 100 at Brute. Perceived quality is fitting when there are ice chests that currently exist that are just as effective and well-built, if not better, for lower prices than Yetis. People that don't know better think Yeti is the end all, be all. Sometimes that may be true, but they're not the leader because of their quality only.

Okay I was just talking about the roto molded coolers in general which everyone lumps together as YETI. There's nothing perceived about these, they ARE built to last.

Look dude, they're 4x's tougher than a bullshite igloo which makes them 4x's the price. Overpriced, sure, but I'll pay a premium for something that will handle the abuse I put it through.

I'm pretty sure I've only ever put water in my yeti tumbler, but I am damn sure I've never removed the gasket to clean it.

I've also never done so with the Engel one I have that I use for coffee.

It only works correctly if your YETI sticker is installed on your F-250 with truck nuts. If you don't have an F-250 with truck nuts, you're shite out of luck. Might as well give it to me.

You got any jokes of your own? I swear YETI jokes are some of the most played out on TD.
