It was another overly expensive fad/trend. People didn't/don't buy them because of their mystical ability to maintain ice.

Yeti ice is legit. I can pre-chill my Coleman Extreme - add beer and ice along with the Yeti ice on Saturday morning - have to bust the ice off the Yeti ice containers when it's time to refreeze them Monday evening.

Sidenote:

There is a competitor with a nearly identical product called Orca and my co-worker married into the family of the guy who started it.

Did I miss where Yeti is going the way of Z Cavaricci? They seem to be selling more product than ever.

If you are opening up repeatedly for drinks then there is no added benefit.

THEN WHATS THE DAMN POINT?

of course i'm constantly opening it to grab bottled water out of it.

If you're constantly opening it for drinks why do you care if it holds water past 8 hours? I'm not really pro-YETI but that is equivalent to buying a sports car and being upset that you cannot go any faster than 25 MPH in a school zone.

ETA: What is the point of bashing it if you're not using it for its intended purpose?

I recently got one of the yeti carry bags. Holds I think 30 beers and a bag of ice. Had a gift card and didn't really care to get anything at that store so i paid $100 for this $300 ridiculously overpriced ice chest bag thing.

Filled it up with ice and a case of beer on a Saturday. Sat under the carport in the shade all day and night. Next morning it was mostly water. Still had some ice, but mostly water, after less than 24 hours in the shade.

On a side note, my 120qt coleman that i paid $60 for, with wheels, was filled up with 4 cases of beer and packed down with ice. Sat on the deck facing the beach on Grand Isle, in the sun in the morning. Filled it up on Friday morning. Sunday when we left, it was still mainly ice. Added two cases of beer to it during the weekend, never added ice. It claims to hold ice for 5 days, and i believe it, from personal experience. That ice chest was opened probably 200 times over those two days. That yeti was opened about 12 times, and sat in the shade.

Personal experience doesn't have me believing Yeti. But i do love the rambler.

The YETI carry bag has a zipper and is designed for portability. They're not worth the money, but comparing it to a 120qt ice chest isn't exactly an apples to apples comparison. Have you ever found an insulated bag that was worth a damn?

It appears that the only Yetis being bought are by companies that give them away as prizes. the company I work for owns over 20 ice chests all igloos but every year we buy one Yeti, put a company sticker on it, and we give it away at the Bayou Bash.

Nah, not at all. If you're paying $300 for an ice chest to sit out by the pool while you're bar-b-qing, you're an idiot. A YETI can do that, but it is designed to do something else entirely, and if you're not using it for that other purpose, you are a fool.

It is designed to keep shite cold under certain conditions for long periods of time. If you aren't going to be in those conditions, then it won't do you any good. I'm not sure why this is hard to understand. A YETI is a complete waste of money if you need an ice chest to hold drinks that will be opened often.

Isn't it so much nicer to carry though? Last week on the beach, filled it up day one, poured water out added drinks and ice from freezer in condo each morning. Loved not having to lug that big arse cooler down and back each day. Perfect for the boat as well.

Yeti is an over priced marketing gimmick to drive Hipsters crazy.

When it all said and done, stick with the Igoo, the price difference will help buy a lot of bags of ice.
