Except nothing will change. It is a feel good measure that will only add more government and taxes for the same voting block that typically rattles the “I want smaller government and less taxes” saber.

The EBR Parish Government will still exist which means they will have the same Mayor President, same Fire Department, same police patrols, same trash service, same water service, same sewer service, same park system, same court system, same legislatures, same state senators, etc.

However they will get to add to their elected officials by creating a new mayor, a new administration, and hope that they will get to form a new school district.

If successful in forming a new school district they will get to increase the taxes for everyone in Baton Rouge and the Village of St George to form a whole new school board that will manage one high school, a couple of middle schools, and a couple of elementary schools.

Chances are these schools will keep the same principals, teachers, administrators, coaches, cafeteria workers, janitors etc. while teaching the same students. The schools will improve slightly as the duped middle class members are now convinced that they can finally take their kids out of private schools.

They will be so relieved that tax dollars will finally get invested in their part of town as they drive on the new roads that EBR just constructed in their “city” that go by some of the newest schools in the parish too.

They will also more than likely renege on paying the legacy costs that pays the retirement for the teachers that taught them.

So the people outside of St. George, they get a burning cross in their yard? Is that still standard procedure?

There you go predicting nothing will change if St. George becomes a city even though folks will have more control over their tax dollars and a better chance at a school district, and instead we should keep the status quo and suffer those consequences.

We have seen what the status quo has brought us. We have seen how fierce those in BR have fought to keep control of our tax dollars and our schools by stopping SG.

I'm sorry, it's obvious to me, there is a shot here to improve our lives, build something better and grow our portion of the parish.

The status quo is a poor option.

I don’t think it will help, but I do think it will pass

If st George does pass, I think it will speed the decline of City of BR. Not sure how st George can be so vastly improved from a lifestyle perspective if it’s borders an area that is rapidly deteriorating. The spillover impact won’t be stopped due to being a separate city.

If SG becomes a viable alternative for folks who would otherwise leave the parish, it has a chance to grow, improve and stay prosperous.

That would require good services, public safety and a top shelf public school system.

BR isn't growing, heck post flood the entire parish lost population. The status quo isn't the alternative. Change is in order.

I’m really starting to lean this way as well. There is no transparency on who is leading this effort. That is concerning to me.

Are you kidding me? Their names are on the top of EVERY PETITION.
