That makes sense. But do we believe we can form a government that would spend that $50M (or less) more effectively and not end up like every other form of government in wanting more revenue?
I believe we can do better because it's smaller and you are better able to tell where it's going.
Let me ask you this. Are you seeing 50 million dollars in services from the City-Parish where you live? Think about it.
Now I'm not talking about Fire, police, sewer, parks, garbage, libraries, Green Light plan and EMS becsuse those services are the result of other taxes and fees.

I don’t mind you expressing your opinion but it’s on me to tell you that you are completely wrong. Enjoy being bitter when it is successful.

Actually it would be easier starting from scratch. We have observed everything we shouldn’t do both with a corrupt school board and corrupt local government. We shed all past crap they have created and start fresh.

It's a noble effort, but the next LA government with a top flight school board and mayor's office will be the first.

It's been done in the area before and 2 of the resulting school districts - Central and Zachary - are both ranked top 5 in the state.

The Baton Rouge area can lay claim to the top four public school districts in Louisiana after new academic rankings were released Thursday, but its largest district, East Baton Rouge Parish, lost ground, mirroring the state as a whole.

Zachary tops the list as it has for the past decade since breaking away from the East Baton Rouge school system in 2003. Central, which broke off in 2007, is ranked second this year, up from fourth last year. Livingston Parish is third, leapfrogging Ascension Parish, which is in fourth place.

That’s why the guy who said it’s just creating more government and more taxes has the wrong idea about the movement. The takers are worried that the pie will get smaller for them. They will use every tactic in the book to stop this movement.

I agree. I'm from Central and graduated from CHS. Splitting from BR has been a positive for that area. Property taxes did go up a little according to my dad but not by that much.
If I lived in the proposed area I'd be willing to pay a little more in property taxes if it meant good public schools. We pay almost 11k for one kid in private school right now.

So in your opinion doing nothing and keeping the status quo is the best thing?
I disagree, we can do better.

No, I agree with trying. I'm just skeptical of the results.

You’ll get more government because it has to replace the ineffectual one. The only reason your taxes will go up, eventually after a few years, will be do to your property taxes increase because it will have become more valuable. It’s natural unless you can cap your property tax. Regardless, if you’re for small government, this is the definition of setting up a small government.
