It this changes nothing, then why does north Baton Rouge oppose it so much?

The opposition is City Hall which includes all of BR, not just NBR and it includes people who are fortunate to have kids or family in magnet schools.

That's the main opposition, but of course there are others who don't want the risk who live in SG.

But all of the BR establishment is afraid to lose total control of our sales tax revenues and then the taxes we pay for EBR schools.

Why is the area drawn where it is? Seems odd to exclude Parkview Oaks but include Shenandoah.

Is this going to make Baton Rouge less of a shithole?

I’ve been north of ten for too long. Being a white male, the race riots left me a little scared to come back and visit for a LSU game. Sad

From what I read they included areas that drew the most signatures on the first petition.

I'm guessing that area didn't support the movement.

ETA: it appears Parkview Oaks is in BR

Parkview Oaks might be in the city limits. We're in Woodland Ridge and we are by about a half mile

Parkview Oaks has been part of the city of BR since the 60's when it was built.

I just don't understand why people are so afraid of it going to a vote.

Question, if you live in the worst state in the country. How will a city within that hell hole of a state be any better?

Right now SGeans pay a 2% sales taxes to the parish general fund. It totals over 50 million dollars a year. If we formed a city the city govt. would control that money, not the parish cabal. We could see where the money is spent. We can't now.

Then down the road there's an ISD. It's not guaranteed, but it's the route we have been advised to take.

That makes sense. But do we believe we can form a government that would spend that $50M (or less) more effectively and not end up like every other form of government in wanting more revenue?

If we were in St George I'd be willing to pay slightly higher taxes for good schools. I'm from Central and my dad's taxes have gone up some after incorporation but the schools are better as well.

That is my thing though. I’m not interested in paying more taxes. We pay a ridiculous amount of taxes already. It gets pissed away at every turn.

I get that and I'm more anti tax than most people. Maybe that stems from me paying 10.5k for private school tuition every year. If I had a chance to pay $800 more per year in property taxes for good schools it would save us a lot of money.

I don't really have a dog in this fight. We don't live in the proposed area (although we could always move a mile down the road) and my daughter is almost in middle school so by the time anything changed I wouldn't likely be willing to change her school anyway.

I'm just familiar with the improvements that it made in Central and think that it would be good for the parish as a whole.

I’m in the unincorporated area that is not currently included in St. George. 31 people on my street signed the petition last time. I sure hope we can get annexed in.
