I agree with you. I spend most of my time on the condo balcony when we go. The only time the beach is enjoyable is late afternoon into early evening when it’s cooler with a nice breeze.

Where do you go for vacations?

Wife and I work a ton and haven’t really ever got to vacation. Recently has all been based around a conference somewhere. We have also just gone to Alaska, Seattle, New York, etc.

Next year Europe hopefully.

Here's one reason to go to Destin.

I hate the beach, primarily because of the sand and I’m OCD about not getting sunburnt.

It’s enjoyable seeing hot chicks though.

I get the allure of a long weekend on the beach, but I don’t want to spend more than 4 or so days there.

I don’t typically plan beach vacations, but I’m not going to turn my nose up at a vacation if it’s been planned by my family, or if I’m invited by friends.

You live in lake Charles

Replace the word beach with lake Charles & it’s the same thing. But you actually live there

I like how someone doesn’t understand something you like, they’re automatically written off as not fun. I spent my early 20s getting drunk on rivers and lakes. I don’t care for making it a lifestyle.

I did some paddle boarding on my last beach trip. It was quite enjoyable.

I understand how things go this year but there are tons of places you can hop a cheap flight to. The beach just sounds awful. You can drink anywhere if that’s the allure.

I understand what you're saying. I like the beach but the idea of spending all day there, or even a whole vacation day after day sitting on the beach doesn't seem appealing to me at all. I get really bored after an hour or two. It's just kind of dull to me.

Some people like to relax outside.

Not everyone wants a vacation to be an activity.

there is nothing better than sitting on a beach, it calms the soul.

I don't hate the beach, but I've only been twice in the past decade. Its not my top choice for a trip, but I always have a good time when I go. Just prefer it as a long weekend vs. a 7 day/7 night thing.

I entirely see why people with families choose it though. Same reasons you mentioned in your OP. A couple tanks of gas vs. 4+ plane tickets... being able to cook in the condo vs. restaurant meals for 4+ people 3x a day... a means to relax and drink while your kids are entertained and not bothering you, etc.

The types of vacations adults usually enjoy are ones kids would be whiny and miserable on, so I don't expect people to bring their kids on those vacations with the same regularity they can just bring them to the beach.

Sitting in the sand, going out into the waves, or hanging out in the pool with a beer is one of my top 3 favorite things tho do

Agreed. Not sure how anyone can spend a week on the beach. One day is good enough for me. I hardly go to my condo in OB for that reason
yet you have a condo in OB. Sounds like you are pretty stupid.

Depends on the beach. Sitting around all day can get boring so I like to go somewhere with other activities like snorkeling or paddle-boarding.

The frick kind of dumb post is this?

The beach is a great place to run around and be free and listen to music and relax.

Take a $20 tent and a frisbee and a cooler and have a great time. How can someone NOT enjoy the beach?

You’re on the edge of whatever continent you’re on. The sunset is great. Volleyball is great.

What are you missing?
