re: I’m honestly inquiring. What’s the point of going to the beach?

I did notice that it seems to be a sliding scale depending on how large a group you're talking.
We did a long weekend (3 nights) at the beach with another couple a few years ago, and it was still $1500 per couple all said and done. It seems like if you have a whole family with you and you do the 7days/7nights discount plus you're cooking at the condo most nights, it becomes a lot more economical than taking that many people on a different type of vacation.

How can someone NOT enjoy the beach?
It's hot and sandy and often crowded. I enjoy it when I go, but it wouldn't be where I choose to vacation

I was poor and had dumb parents, so I never went to the beach growing up.
I've taken my kids every year for the past 16 years to one beach trip a summer.
Early summer to avoid the crowds and rarely to the big resorts.
So 90% of the reason is for the kids... Pool, beach, lazy river, or whatever cheesy crap they think of to do. Cost are kept in check by eating most meals in a condo.
I could sit on a balcony and drink coffee or a beer watching the water for a week straight and never get tired of it.
And that's not to say we don't take other family trips.

What do people do at the beach besides sit around and drink in the sand
First of all, wtf is wrong with that? Second, unless you are at the beach alone, there are plenty of activities—play games or anything else you would do at an outdoor gathering.
The slow pace is exactly why people go to the beach. Plus it’s an easy and relatively inexpensive vacation for families.
This is like asking “what do people do in the woods. I mean I get hunting but what else can you do?”

The frick kind of dumb post is this?
I’ve left the southeastern United States before. I’m guessing you haven’t.
If I had limited time and money, I’d find something more enjoyable than sitting outside yelling at kids to stay within viewing distance.
I’m not judging it, each their own, but wanted to gain some perspective.
What I gained was understanding people that enjoy beach vacations get very angry when you criticize beach vacations.

Bro, going to the beach is not a southern, or even an American phenomenon.

For most it’s far less expensive than a traditional vacation to say Europe or one of the larger American metros. Also, a ton of people take a beach trip each spring or summer in addition to a “regular” vacation some other time of year.
Are you equally as confused by people going camping or to natural parks?

If I ever win the lottery I’m moving to watercolor and skin diving every day to find neat shells and treasures. Love that shite.
Also I’ll drink a lot while sitting on the sand in between dives

People have different interests. I’m not a big fan of the beach either. Give me a week in a cabin in the mountains and I’m set for the year

For everyone saying it’s HOT.
Take a cheap tent, y’all.
Of course nobody enjoys getting blasted by sun all day with no escape.
A tent instantly creates a home base that everyone can congregate under. Put some big beach towels and coolers under it and there you go. Beers and water and sandwiches and chips are good to go.
From there just run around and frick shite up.
