I’m honestly inquiring. What’s the point of going to the beach?

I have never really noticed this until this year but there have been massive amounts of people going to the beach. I was raised in LA but spent much of my 20s and 30s until recently outside south Louisiana.

What do people do at the beach besides sit around and drink in the sand. Fishing I get. That’s an activity for a family.

Sitting on the beach just seems like the lowest common denominator vacation, outside Walt Disney World (another thing people in south Louisiana have a fascination with I’ll never understand).

I have tried to imagine me sitting in a lawn chair with a beer. Kids playing in the sand. I’m not getting it. Are there nearby resorts people usually go to and that’s just called “the beach”?

I’m kind of get it’s a cheap family vacation people who drive places do, but I may be missing something here.

The only thing I’ve ever went to the beach for was to surf fish in Grand Isle and Holly Beach if you even call that a beach. More like sand pit surrounded by glassware.

Some of us have extremely mentally demanding jobs and a week of listening to relaxing waves and getting hammered is perfect.

Also, hot moms in bikinis

I think you’re not getting the point of a family vacation. Or you know a vacation period.

A lot of people relax there, it’s like therapy to some. It’s not my cup of tea, but I see the benefits in those Im close too...

Agreed. Not sure how anyone can spend a week on the beach. One day is good enough for me. I hardly go to my condo in OB for that reason

I understand how things go this year but there are tons of places you can hop a cheap flight to. The beach just sounds awful. You can drink anywhere if that’s the allure.

Drink on the beach
Play golf
Sleep in
Take naps
Eat unhealthy food
Enjoy the “scenery”

Did I miss any?

It's not my favorite vacation but my wife likes it.

It is fairly relaxing to sit under an umbrella, drink and people watch. Maybe take a dip in the ocean, go out to some new restaurants etc

The beach was fun when I was eleven years old. Having the waves of saltwater flow around you was kind of cool.

1. My friend Amy occasionally runs on the beach for endurance training.

2. Women get almost naked when they get next to water.

3. Fishing might attract a few people.

In my 50’s, I would not be interested going to a beach other than looking at women.

You sound like a lot of fun to hang around with. If that's all you can conceive of doing at the beach stay home glued to your 55 inch.

You sound like fun. Why care what other people do for vacations?
