That said, you get in your car everyday, start it up, put it in gear, and drive your self down the road. Just like your grandfather did. Only difference, is your car has Sirius, wifi, navigation, luxury interiors, fast fuel efficient engines, safety sensors, etc.etc.....and we drive down nice paved interstates and highways that connect us easily
The basic act of driving a vehicle hasn't changed since the advent of the automobile.

Of course bells and whistles added, and there have been improvements but it's still the same basic vehicle.
We still wreck them and get stuck in traffic constantly. We're building the same shitty roads.
We should have little personal drone vehicles that fly us around automatically by now.

It's a massive leap to relinquish control of that vehicle. I.E. get in a punch a destination in and sit back.

You don't have to regulate the speed, and there are sensors that can recognize an oncoming vehicle and readjust into a lane. Along with parralel park itself without a human touching the wheel nor the accelerator, that's a huge, huge shift in technology.

I'll just say that I'm a lawyer in the auto industry and I definitely know what the future is looking like.
The laws will change rapidly once the tech is there (and to be honest, it basically is).
It is coming. Most cars will have self driving capability within 10 years. Within 25 years every car will be self driving.
Within 35 you won't even be able to actually drive without a license that I would put on par with getting a license to own fully automatic weapons.

Well my reality is there are no self driving 18 wheelers on the road today, and don't come throwing links of human drivers putting a truck on cruise control and taking his hands off the steering wheel for a few seconds lunch box

Most cars now have a semblance of self driving capabilities. Lane adjustment, parking, and follow distance are already in nearly every new car.
