So many $60,000 millionaires driving Suburbans and Yukons.

My only rule on this is that if you can't afford gas to put in your vehicle, then it is out of your price range. I see a lot of excalades put $5 in the gas tank.

Yep as someone who doesn’t make $300k, I want to thank everyone for the government check I get every month to pay for my $60k SUV.

I’ve got news for you; you’ll pay those taxes whether you like it or not...just like the rest of us.

Although I do believe way too many people drive 60k vehicles, do you really think it takes 300k to afford one? You have no clue if you think so. Sub 200k could swing that vehicle and still max retirement, have a very nice house, send kids to private school, etc.

I feel like most people who make 299k can afford a 60k car.

I think the general rule is that a vehicle shouldn't cost more than half of your annual income unless you have a big downpayment.

If you're spending half your annual income on a single vehicle - you're beyond help (and I've done it, and yeah, I was beyond help.)

Heck, ALL your vehicles shouldn't be much more than half your annual income - if that.

Of your home mortgage maybe. But not your vehicle.

Maybe not one, if a family has only one car note.

But 60K Yukon and a 40k+ truck on a 200k salary plus max 401k, house, private school, and living expenses is living pay check to paycheck.

I agree that people can buy whatever they wont but I do feel that people waste a lot of money on cars. I am a believer in the philosophy of buy a car to do its job not make you feel good. I drive a crappy 2006 Toyota but it does the following: paid for, good gas mileage, never breaks, will last along time, has an AC and it drives me to to work. Why would I pay $600 extra a month to remove a couple of those options and replace it with: Its new and expensive?

A half ton pick up truck runs $50K now. You’re gonna have to go for a cheap used vehicle if you try to use old philosophies
