Well this doesn’t apply to the OT anyway

Fiancée and mine both make six figures. We drive a paid off Toyota Camry.
Not throwing another dollar into a vehicle we don’t absolutely have to or taking on a note that’s not a necessary

I max out all retirement contributions before I take home $1. We live off one income. There is something to be said for having access to $40-50K cash, rather than tying all your money up ina depreciating asset and related costs.

He's especially jealous of you, seriously

According to the OP, a 1998 Kia.

Heck, ALL your vehicles shouldn't be much more than half your annual income - if that.
Are we talking household income here? I was thinking individual. So if you make 60k you shouldn't spend more than 30k on a vehicle

So many $60,000 millionaires driving Suburbans and Yukons.
My in laws get a new loaded Tahoe every two years and give us the two year old hand me down.
Just because people drive really nice cars doesn’t mean they have to pay for them. Remember that when you’re driving down the moral high road in your ‘03 civic, telling everyone how fiscally responsible you are.

I think it's great that you're frugal. I also think that life is too short and have no problem with people spending money, frivolously, on things that bring them joy.

Maybe I've just had old-fashioned experience, but I can name on one hand married folks operating on a "individual income" basis.
If you're making $60k and spending $30k, and she's making $40k and spending $20k, you're still spending half your income (however you break it down) on a car - and that's fricking crazy (and I've done it.)

If you have a Vanderbilt degree, you shouldn't be half as dumb as the OP is.

You just told us this week your T-Rex armed fiancee is a nurse. Now you're telling us she makes six figs. Hmmmmm

Add in insurance and upkeep and it is significantly more than half.

Well, most people don't finance their cars for 1 year so that's not exactly accurate

What's crazy, is caring about how people that "earned" their money, choose to spend it. If you were criticizing how people on welfare spend "our" money, I would agree with you.

Sure but how many of these dudes have $730 truck notes and can’t seem to scrape two nickels together to pay for things for their kids. Or carry a bunch of CC debt. I speak this way because I used to live that way. No more.

Have you seen the statistics on how much "savings" the average American has? I'm terrified for my future when social security falls apart. All these idiots making horrendous financial decisions are going to find a way to go after my investments, even though I did the right thing and bought cheaper cars and went on less vacations.
