I was taught a good rule of thumb for a mortgage was 1/4 of your monthly take home. So I can't imagine having a car note more than my mortgage

Will you cite me to an instance where someone past their "working years" (whatever that is) has a $60k ride that you are paying for?

Sure.

Who do you think pays for these people who don't save money properly?

People should look at it as buying miles, not a car.

If you plan on putting 200K miles on it that is only 30 cents a mile which isn't out of line with buying cheaper ones more often.

the OT's jealousy of people driving nice cars is hilarious.

people like to spend their money on different things. some people love driving a nice car, some people like spending a premium to live in cool neighborhoods, some people have boats and toys, some go to europe multiple times a year.

it's stupid to project your spending habits on others.

Via taxation you have to support people who don't make wise decisions after their working years are over.

You really don't have any idea how this taxation thing you speak of works do you Teddy?

Not a single ounce of evidence supporting they are riding in $60k rides after working life was provided in your graphs. Not one.

Dems do love big government and being able to tell people how they should spend their money and what they should eat. Good to know you are in line with them.

Ok so now instead of hating on people who can afford to purchase a 60k vehicle, we are super angry at the retired old people we see riding around in the FREE 60k vehicles in this town. I'll be sure to keep my eye open clown.

I don't think the OP implied any jealousy towards people who can afford 60k vehicles. He said it was unwise to do so of you didn't make a certain amount of money, which reveals he isn't jealous of those who make that amount buying nice cars.

This doesn't make any sense in regards to anything I have posted.

The OP suggested that if you make less than 300k you should not be riding in a 60k. People making 150k per year and investing in 401ks are taking home approxilately 8-9k per month, A note for a 60k vehicle is an average downpaynent for that price level would be around 800-1100 per month. That's basically 10-14% of takehome pay for a vehicle at 1/2 the numbers the OP suggested should be the threshold. Do you pay 10-14% of takehome for your vehicle? Guessing you do, which presupposes you actually have a job and vehicle (not that I care if you do or don't because it is none of my business).

No.

I pay less than 5% of take home for two vehicles.

That is impressive. I commend you for that frugality and it will benefit when you are retired in the Carribean by the age of 50. May not be other peoples thing, though. I have a wife and two kids and travel an awful lot. No way I would let her ride in a vehicle that is 2.5% of my salary. To each his own and every situation is different.

How do you know how much money they make and why do you care? Did you just pull 300k out of your arse? A household with an income of 150,000 could easily afford a 60k car note, house payment, etc, etc. you’re jealousy manifests into anger because you wish you could afford a nice ride. Otherwise why give a shite?

There are people with $100m net worth that buy private jets and $300k cars.
I’ve never understood that either but it’s NMP.
