I worked in the hood one summer as a life guard. Guy named Cornpop was there....

The closest I ever came was Tigerland before it became the hood

Had a drug deal gone bad in my front yard a few weeks ago in Hammond. 11 shots and the perps on security film. Pup and I just stayed down while they drove off, cops never showed up.
And my tenants have stopped up the sewage lines four times this year

I worked at a liquor store that was in a nice shopping center but backed up to the hood. We used to superglue quarters to the floor and watch hoodrats work on them all day. One dude finally brought in a screwdriver and got them up.
Also lived near a black dude for a bit who always had his power cut off, so he would charge his phone on my outdoor outlet.

My brother lived in my grandmother's house after the neighborhood got a little rough. They hosted Thanksgiving one year and we saw a guy run through the front yard followed by a cop out of the dining room window.
Holiday crime footrace is all I have.

When I was working from home I saw a guy pull out an AR-15 at a red light on Millerville and unload into the car next to him then speed off.

House next door to me had a shootout guy was followed home and they unloaded on him. Missed every shot through the windshield looked like he should have been died but didn't have a scratch.
New years and the 4th sounds like a warzone.

home broken into 2 or 3 times while we were there; sketchy dudes trying to push door in on my mother to "use the phone"; stuff stolen off our porch, stolen stuff hidden in our shed ... sounds bad once you type it out.

I lived on a president street and the guy that moved out before me left because he got held at gunpoint by a gang of 14 year olds while he was jogging. Some people don’t have situational awareness
I lived off state street and moved and 6 months later I googled my old house to show some people where I had lived and the first thing that popped up was where a few weeks before the house was broken into and they shot a guy living there

Working in the hood. Guy missing an eye offered me a smith and Wesson revolver for $100. He retrieved a 357 model 19 from some bushes and handed it too me. The serial number had been colored with a damn sharpey.
Some years later I gave it to a friend who was a police chief. The gun was stolen from the former sherrifs house... it was his service revolver!

Not sure if this is a ghetto/hood story you're looking for....but my Dad was active duty military my entire childhood; my parents had the great idea to buy a trailer and have the Navy pay to move it all over the country (which worked out great in all actuality).
Long story short, I feel like I saw a ton of crazy shite living in trailer parks in near proximity to military bases; mainly shite I didn't think was "weird" at the time.
One memory I vividly hold is maybe 1999 or 2000 or so my dad buying a wooden fricking deck off a guy down the road, and my dad having him and like 10 other Navy guys lifting this like 20x20 deck from in front of a guys house, putting it on the roof and bed of my dad's single cab 1st gen dodge dakota, my dad driving this big arse wooden deck down the trailer park service road, and the same guys helping unload it and set it up in front of our (recently moved) trailer house. We felt like Kangs at the time with our new deck
I realize you're probabaly looking for crazy gunshot or gansta stories, mine is probabaly more OT trashy than anything

Lived in an apartment in a "working class" neighborhood that turned into a ghetto. I moved out but several years after I left a cop went to my old apartment building on a welfare check. While he was in the apartment two random dudes got into a shootout in the parking lot over a completely unrelated trivial matter. The Cop just happened to be there when it happened so he ran downstairs and drew his weapon and ordered them to stop. Like something out of a Naked Gun movie one of the perps then started shooting at the cop. The cop returned fire hitting perp #1 and then Perp #2 (who was originally shooting at Perp #1) shot the cop and fled the scene.

I lived in Midcity NOLA for about 7 1/2 years.
Had a big male raccoon that knew the trash pickup schedule and perused everybody’s trash cans the night before. He’d walk the sidewalks, both sides of the street, and stand up and hook his arms over the edge of the trash cans and dig around. No fear of people.
Had a guy with teardrop tats casing houses for a little while.
A guy OD’d on heroin down the street and was found in the stoop of a house. Not his house, or his neighborhood.

I lived with my mom, dad and sister. My dad worked for animal control. I had a friend that owed money to a drug dealer so that was some drama.. There was an ex con hassling me until I hit him In the head with a cinder block. Later on I went to live with my cousin who won the lottery but that's another story
