Also nurse if you have a gopro take videos of him playing and enjoying life. I found videos capture so much more than looking at pictures.
All I have is pictures of my girl dachshund before she passed 7 years ago. I had videos on the old video camera, but ive somehow misplaced it in the last 3 years. I miss seeing how she walked and seeing her look at me with those sweet eyes.
So yeah take some videos of him/her looking into the camera.

Thanks for the kind words posted in here. This sucks so bad, but I know it's part of being a pet owner.
Yeah it’s just part of it. You should take solace in the fact that your pretty pup made it 10-11 years. You obviously provided it with a very happy and healthy life. One of the biggest injustices in this world is the short lifespan of dogs but that’s just the way it is, and it seems like your doggo got about as good a life as it could have asked for

Got a gopro 7 before I went on a cruise 6 months ago I just pull it out now even when I take them to the dog park right up the street. Just watching my 2 goldens get excited when I pull out their leashes and watching their bodies shake knowing they are going somewhere is things you remember when they are gone. Having those memories on videos just makes you never forget them.

If I'd have known, I'd have bought him a tomahawk ribeye. And brought him to Mexico or Florida to get laid.
The first part for real though.

Bring him for car rides and let him stick his head out the window.
That is definitely the No. 1 thing on my dog's bucket list.

So while he still is his normal self...I want his last days to be full of things he loves.
Sorry to hear, I know it far too well (twice in the last 5 years).
My only regret was not giving them the shitty food they loved (and the steak I promised) and just said frick it all with their diet. My first dog went from super healthy to sick in a span of a few hours where she looked tired, but was still eating and drinking okay, didn't have any incontinence. I checked on her every hour and passed away in the middle of the night when I fell asleep.
My other dog left me pretty unexpectedly as well, some "signs" but the last day was a drastic decline like the previous. He went from running around the back yard and doing his business to 12 hours later not being able to stand up to drink from his bowl. I had to put him down maybe 24 hours after that.
If I could have one day and know the day I pick for him to go, I would start early, let him do the things he likes to do and end it with him in bed full of steak (because he loved it). Then bring him to the vet the next morning.

quote:yep. I dont have kids, but have a dog and have had another before him and if I had a video of her smiling like she always did, itd be what I watch when Im down. My current dog brings so much joy to me when he is tired and chillen next to me and just smiling with his long tongue hanging out. He’ll sit there and watch the TV screen with whatever im watching. Wish he could talk so we could discuss what we’re watching.

I don't know why the guy with the .22 suggestion got so downvoted. You let the dog live a good life as long as he can, then when it's time, you take him outside, play with him until he's tired, feed him until he slows down, and right before he stops eating, you put a bullet behind his ear. He had the best day ever, no stress, no strange men putting needles in his arms. Just play, eat, and gone.
Then the owner cries after the unpleasant deed is done. It's a fitting and noble end for both your buddy and you.

If this was 1950 I see your reasoning but the thought of me pulling the trigger on my best friend just doesn't sit well with me. You can have them put down very humanly now with one shot and they never wake up again. I mean having them fall asleep with no pain versus putting a gun up to their head wtf. Some people can handle that it just isn't me. My .02

All of my dogs love walks in the woods. I have to take my leashed, but they don't seem to mind. They seem to just relish all the different smells.

last month of my yellow lab's life he was fed meatloaf and was carried to his favorite spot in the yard every day. We spent his last night together in the living room. I woke up the next morning and he was gone.

Good food, lots of love, a few pictures and whatever enjoyment they have always liked.

I did some research last night and the dog park I mentioned with the swimming area has apparently been recently renovated with better swimming area. We will bring him this weekend (assuming he doesn’t still have diarrhea)
I also ordered a massive dog pool for our backyard that will arrive Wednesday.
It’s just heartbreaking, especially since he is acting his usual happy self. Still full of energy and wanting play fetch or tug. Hopefully it’s a very small growing mass and will give us at least a couple months of him being his usual self.

Subaru has a commercial where the guy has a Bucket List for his dog. It will make you cry, but you could do something like that.

Road trip to the beach and let him swim in every motel pool along the way.

Give 'em anything they want. We had 2 Akitas that died of old age....the 2nd one got ice cream everyday towards the end.

No way I could shoot my labs even if they were suffering. I'd have the vet put them down while I held them. I can kill other things and it doesn't bother me but my little buddies, no way.
I'd take them to the water for a final swim, then just sit with them and pet them until it was time. I know I would be crying like a little bitch after but so be it. Dogs are the most loyal and loving creatures God created.

We don't have a pool but he has always LOVED the water and the most joy I ever saw on his face was the first time he got to play in the ocean and run on the beach.
Y’all don’t have a lake nearby? My dog much prefers the lake to a pool, plus it’s better for their skin.
