Charleston SC if that counts.

That's the closest thing to a college town I've been to so that's all I got

I graduated from UT and even then Austin wasn't really a college town any more. There are plenty of places that are great to live in for other reasons, like Austin, Tempe, etc. but they aren't really college towns.

I'd have to go with Bozeman.

I've been told that Arizona State is a commuter campus, so I don't think Tempe would really qualify in that respect anyway.

Plus Arizona State is in Phoenix, that would be like calling New Orleans or Atlanta college towns.

Umm.....ASU's main campus is in Tempe NOT Phoenix. Phoenix and Scottsdale border Tempe so you can easily travel 10 minutes and be in a different city. But again....Arizona State is in Tempe.

ETA: Tempe def qualifies as a college town.....it's not a commuter campus.

I've lived part-time in Missoula (I have a house that I don't get to often enough but I can't admit that I just visit these days--at least it totals months not just weeks), and I spend a lot of time between there and Jackson and eastern Washington and Idaho and Canada. If I could just stay, I would.

Re eastern Montana, it's just an extension of the Dakotas (and not the good parts). I guess I too have mostly just driven through but there was no indication I was missing much.

If degree didn't matter, I would probably spend two years in Steamboat Springs, CO and then finish up in Durango, CO...

Also found Boulder, CO and Seattle, WA to be pretty cool towns, though they were both too liberal for me...

Everybody here who mentioned Madison, WI can just go ahead and substitute in Iowa City, IA.

Iowa Fricking City >>>> Madtown

I went to college in Charleston and I don't consider it a college town.
