I wanna retire to West Jefferson, NC, which is in The High Country.
And this is why.Mid-June with temperatures like these
Give me the mountains over the beach every single time.

Looks miserable hot and humid

Regardless if you prefer cold or hot, everyone hates humidity. Coastal SC is humid. And should never be compared to SD weather.

That may be well and good for you, but your city is still full of New Jersey transplants.
Charleston now is just South Newark with better food.

Socal obviously has the best weather in the country
Second is probably somewhere in Appalachia that has four seasons and doesn't get too cold or too hot

Stay cool in Columbia
Is the Vista area in downtown Columbia safe and is it one of the better areas to stay.
We are also considering and an Airbnb in the area just northeast of downtown in an older neighbor hood with bungalows rentals. Is that safe?

No one mentioned living in more than one place. Most any place is suitable for half or more of a year. My goal is to live in Texas close to an international airport and good healthcare for the cooler/colder months and Colorado for the other. Hunt, fish, travel, spend times with my kids and hopefully one day grandkids.

I avoid Columbia- despite living outside of it for 28 years I can’t tell you much, I’m sorry.
The Farmer’s Market on Saturdays is fun, the Museum is decent, if you have kids the zoo is a must, Prohibition Grill is awesome… it is kinda congested.
I am pretty sure daytime is fine- nighttime you’ll probably be fine in groups- just gotta avoid drunk drivers. Drunk driving is SC’s official pastime.
Hubby said the Vista is better than Five points and the Northeast is generally okay, lots of new stuff going on.
If I were you, I’d visit local news sites to get a feel for any patterns you seek to avoid.

Congratulations to the graduate! Columbia can be fun, I hope you enjoy yourself!
Lemme know if you need me to link the news sites.
ETA… Interstates, 20/26 and 26/126 interchanges are nightmares. Depending which way you’re going, you might have to immediately hop one to two or even three lanes to get where you’re going. You’ll be also using 77, but I never use it so I don’t know if you need any warnings for that one.

Except in Louisiana that temp is upper 90's- low
No it isn’t. If it’s that hot in South LA the humidity is probably lower than normal
Usually stays 88-92 actual temp with lots of humidity

Too many of them for sure. It’s a small town but I can tell you four Eagles bars.

We go to San Diego every fall. It’s why I specifically included the qualifier around people who don’t prefer cool weather.
