I would, this one was a game changer.
With flooding in North LA this past spring.
With Katrina in 2005
With BR flood in 1983 and 2016.
I'm getting it.

It actually is. About $40 a month if you are in Zone X
I am in that zone. That would be about a 40% increase in insurance premiums on top of my homeowners insurance. While $40/month doesn't sound like much, that's a relatively steep increase compared to what I'm paying now.
And yes, I know that's way cheaper than $50k or whatever it may cost to repair a flooded home.

I can't wait to see how much my flood insurance premium decreases after this event did not flood my house or damage it in any fashion.
If I didn't get wet carpets during the worst flood since 1927, that should mean I'm a lower risk customer, right????

This event just served to prove the theory that flooding can happen ANYWHERE at ANYTIME. Get the damn flood insurance. Got to be a damn fool not to after this event.
Airplanes have crashed, any plane can crash, one time life insurance for a flight is incredibly cheap, are you going to buy the additional insurance each time you fly? Your logic for buying flood insurance would say you should.

I'm going to look more into the topo maps before really deciding, but my first thought is that I won't get it. The creek behind my neighborhood didn't come close to overtopping and my house is a good bit higher than the top of it.

So at a rate of $450 a year in flood zone X for 40 years give or take for inflation, you are looking at $18,000 to $20,000 over the course of an average adult life. Tell me how logical it would be if you did flood and had to take out a low interest loan and pay for all of your stuff to be replaced potentially coming out in the 100,000s?
obviously its a risk
but the logical rationale would be that the chances are very, very low and that the $20,000 you pay in insurance would be nothing more than for "peace of mind"
which is fine, I'm not faulting anyone for getting flood insurance after this

You cant afford $480 a year? For something that cheap why not get it? For the peace of mind alone.

No.
But the flood maps in relation to who is in Zone X are more than likely going to change.
What does flood insurance cost in Zone AE?

I am going to look into it just to see what it costs. But probably not. I was never threatened.
In Youngsville, same reply for the same reason.
