Even if you're not in a flood zone? Or do you like your chances after this event?

I am going to look into it just to see what it costs. But probably not. I was never threatened.

I thought about it, then went and checked the topo maps and the flooding map for my area, and have decided to not waste my money.

If I had been sweating it in my neighborhood, I'd have already made the call.

Psh... "this was a 500 year flood event"

By that math I must be in a 1000 year flood zone, and I don't even plan on living for another 500 years.

#Winning....

#Do I have to disclose this information to the owner in 2500?

Use the same logic you had before.... I mean there is no way the statistcians could have it wrong. One in 1000 year flood has hit and you didn't get flooded. I mean you don't think a once in 5000 year is next right??!! Nawwwww

No offense, but if you flood you deserve not one cent from FEMA or anyone else then.

And I am not saying that to be an a-hole, but if it happens, you watch, there will be those expecting help saying "have some compassion!!!!!!!"

Not saying you will. You seem like someone simply calculating their risk

They are all in a flood zone and next time, you don't know where and how differently that 25" will be dumped.

if you're house did not come close to being flooded after this event, I don't understand why someone would get flood insurance now

Because they want to be protected ?

I know people who flood every time I piss outside, yet they didn't flood this time. On the other hand I know of a lot of people who have never flooded and got 6' of water. It's not worth the chance IMO

@ $450 per year it's going to take a lot of time to save the difference between what people lost and what FEMA is offering.

I guess

but it doesn't seem like a very logical rationale

to me, the risk wouldn't be there, and I'd rather take my chances and if I was flooded, take out my own loan

I assume flood premiums will go up drastically in the area after this, no?

I did not have any flooding near me and my house is a couple of feet off of the ground. I'm deciding to not get flood insurance. If I just had the extra money and wouldn't hurt by paying it, I would put more consideration in to it.

None taken. I know the risk. And after gutting houses for 5 days I've decided I never want to ever have to deal with this myself.

I'm going to look into exact cost. But I know flood insurance isn't cheap, and not one house in my neighborhood was even close to being threatened by this flood.

I live in Denham...stayed high and dry. No flood water within 1/4 mile of my house...and yes, I just bought a policy. Best $450 I ever spent
