It actually is. About $40 a month if you are in Zone X

This event just served to prove the theory that flooding can happen ANYWHERE at ANYTIME. Get the damn flood insurance. Got to be a damn fool not to after this event.

If you didn't flood in this event, you ain't never gonna flood. Would be a waste of money IMO

if you're house did not come close to being flooded after this event, I don't understand why someone would get flood insurance now

Right, my neighborhood didn't flood... my street didn't even carry standing water on it. A neighborhood not far from me flooded during the heavy rain flash flood part of the storm, but I'm 15'-20' higher in elevation than the houses that flooded, plus I'm built up off the street.

I checked the topo maps and every direction slopes down from my neighborhood, in addition to it being one of the highest 4 to 5 parts of BR south of I-10. I wasn't really considering those factors when I bought the place, but I definitely an counting my blessings now.

Not in BR, but I bought flood insurance last week. Cant help to know how shitty i would feel if something were to happen and flood insurance being so cheap. Not risking it anymore.

I guess the counter argument for that, at least logically speaking, is that 1000's of people's homes flooded for the first time ever.

Had they known everything they know now, even in the face of "it's never flooded here in 1000 years", those people would have bought insurance.

That's why you buy insurance. You pay a little up front in hopes of preventing a financial disaster later.

I've been a fool for some time now. I was contemplating whether or not I'd buy flood insurance when I realized that I'm paying fricking $400/year for insurance on my wife's jewelry. So it's a no brainer to pay a similar amount to protect my home

Use the same logic you had before.... I mean there is no way the statistcians could have it wrong. One in 1000 year flood has hit and you didn't get flooded. I mean you don't think a once in 5000 year is next right??!! Nawwwww
2 500 year cat 5 hurricanes hit Mexico in the same season a few years ago.

Some places just aren't going to flood no matter how much it rains.

Didn't get flooded and live in West Baton Rouge Parish, which is the sole parish in the area with no disaster declaration. But yes, I'm going to look into it.
