Who remembers the old crank start mowers from the 60's and 70's...?

I used to use a reel mower on my St Augustine, worked great. Mine even had a bag on th back that caught most of the clippings.

I have a reel mower that I cut with. If it's sharp it will cut any type of grass. It works well.

I noticed yesterday the guy that owns the house at the entrance of my sub-division was mowing his grass with a reel mower. I had to do a double take because I’ve never seen one being used before.

It must have been gas-powered or you cut your grass every 3 of 4 days. I can't imagine trying to mow St. Augustine grass with a push reel mower. My father had a gas-powered reel mower back in the 70's. Top heavy as hell. Our backyard inclined pretty steeply towards a canal. It was damn good workout trying to mow the backyard and keeping the mower from ending up at the bottom of that canal.

I had a reel mower that I used for about five years and liked it, although there would be various blades of grass it would miss (St. Aug). I prefer my battery mower much better now.

I enjoy using my safety razor, but frick anything that makes cutting grass even more of a pain.

I used to have one for my very small yard at my first house. I used to always cook out and have people over for food and drinks. Inevitably someone would grab the mower and start mowing for the novelty of it... worked out great for the back yard, but I always had to hit the front myself.

I had one very briefly, but my yard is entirely too hilly. If I had a small, flat yard, I'd absolutely use one.

They work well with sharp blades on even ground.

You can seriously rack yourself on tree roots, though.

In the right situation a manual reel mower is actually easier to use than a gas when you consider all factors.

Professional sports fields use reel mowers for a reason. They have a great quality of cut that helps promote healthy turf. I use to sell commercial reel mowers for sportsfields. Commercial units are fairly expensive and a niche product.

Shaving and mowing the grass have become rituals for a lot of people

My electric razor and self-propelled Husqvarna give me a lot more time to do my ritual - drinking bourbon

I pushed one of those cocksuckers way back in the day. My Dad made us use that SOB for years. Of course he would pass a bastard over it each time.

gaston took his reel mower on vacay to 'Zona so he could take mower selfies with the canyon in the background.
