They have a robust capital improvement plan on their website. The library system and the public park system in the city are two of the biggest draws for families with young children given the state of the public school system. Every time we enter one of these libraries, we encounter amazing librarians who go over the top to help my kids find books that will interest them. We love attending the activities they host on the weekends and we love using the meeting rooms for Cub Scout meetings when the weather is not nice or if we have to be indoors for whatever activity we have going on. For some children, the library may be the only positive place they have to go, especially since it’s free! Our library system puts on so many wonderful activities for people of all ages, It would be a disservice to take money away from it, especially since we just voted to give to it.

You can oppose this resolution here BRLA.gov resolution number is 25-00187, the meeting date is 3/12/2025.
With cuts to funding, I have heard that the library plans to only operate Monday through Friday 9 to 5 which would cut out all evening and weekend activities, as well as cut out the opportunity to use the meeting spaces like we do for Cub Scout meetings.

Oh man, if you can get to Cave or someone like her, you will get more help. She sends her stool samples to a lab out of state because she says local labs don’t test properly or for the list of things that she wants.
Also, for skin issues you can use tea tree oil (antibacterial, antiprotozoal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties) mixed with jojoba oil or aloevera plant. I started to use this on my daughter because she had very bad eczema and would get impetigo all the time. I was tired of using topical creams or oral antibiotics so I started putting this on her hotspots and it would clear up the impetigo with no pharmaceuticals. If this doesn’t work alone, you can add apple cider vinegar, which has many of the same benefits, which I used to clear up a candida patch that showed up on my sons scalp that would not clear up with pharmaceuticals that the GP prescribed.
To help with detox, you can use Holy Basil You can watch the imbedded video holy basil is helpful in many ways, but it especially helps the body detox by helping the body produce more glutathione. I introduced it to my son almost 2 months ago, and without me saying anything, friends and family started noticing a difference in him and his communication and interaction with all of us (made me feel like it wasn’t just a placebo effect).
To help with his skin/gut issues, you can also try to take inflammatory foods out of the diet. My daughter suffered with eczema for four years and we did all the tests…nothing showed that she was allergic to gluten or dairy, but we removed gluten and dairy from her diet, her eczema disappeared after trying everything else for 4 years.
Many ingredients used in processed food are also known to cause gut issues. reading nutrition labels can be impossible so I finally downloaded the Yuka app and use it to help me identify hazardous additives. The app will tell you what the hazardous additives are and what they are known to cause which is very helpful. All of the gums and different emulsifiers that are included in food/beverages are known to cause severe gut issues.
Last tips… I mix liquid supplement drops in a little juice or smoothie & powder supplements (or for pills I open them up) and mix it in a peanut butter and jelly mix if smoothies aren’t palatable.
If your son likes smoothies you can hide so many nutrients in there! Chia seeds, ground flax, & hemp seeds are great because they have omegas which are great for the brain!
I really hope all of this rambling is helpful and makes sense. I was compiling all of this between tasks and at red lights this morning. It’s just some of the things I have figured out in the past seven years.

I sincerely wish you all the best. Your story sounds so similar to ours. I always had the same feeling of, “there’s more to this, it’s not just a spectrum disorder”.
It is terrifying to get the diagnosis only because it feels like you’re kicked off a cliff afterwards with absolutely no information/parachute from the doctors. Keep following your gut!

We did chelation therapy using pills prescribed by Dr Cave. There is a compounding pharmacy that makes them to order.
Your doctors may not have tested for the MTHFR mutation. This condition is not taken seriously by all doctors because it is not consistent in the way it affects carriers. Dr Cave is a specialist in this mutation.
When you get an appointment with Dr. Cave, she will sit down with you for two hours at least, going through everything regarding your child. Then she will decide what tests to run which will include urine, blood and any genetic test that may pop up given the information you give her.
She treats the entire body, she doesn’t just look for symptoms to attach a prescription to. She will review your lab results with you in fine detail and explain what you’re lacking, what that causes & how to fix it… another thorough 1-2 hour appointment.

We found out our son had a genetic mutation, MTHFR, which greatly diminished his ability to detox. We put him on methylated b vitamins and saw a rapid increase in speech development. Once we found out he had high metal levels, we did chelation therapy and his light of awareness got brighter and brighter. He started talking more, more eye contact, etc. We found all of this out by going to a functional medicine doctor, Dr Stephanie Cave

Are they within city servitude? If so, call the city to remove. Just had that happen in our neighborhood. One neighbor called the city to remove dead pine trees from adjacent neighbor’s property & the city came out to handle it.

Of course I didn’t read the whole thing. The link was pasted as a “gotcha” joke. You can find anything on the internet to support any side of any argument.
My post was only meant to reach the open minded folks who want to listen to first hand accounts instead of those just looking for an argument while browsing the internet cherry picking mud to sling.

I see your 2013 article and raise you a 2021 article. The internet is always right
I only read the summary and lord knows where it came from. It does say that the expression of the symptoms vary widely based on a host of factors, which I agree with based on what I’ve seen within my own family. My husband and I each have a different mutation regarding methylation & I won’t cite the type (gold jacket, green jacket, who gaf) each kid inherited both mutations. All of us have some “symptoms” of reduced methylation, but none of us have the same symptoms or severity. Same goes to how we responded to adding the methylated b vitamins and other supplements. I can tell you that it improved two lives greatly enough that I’ll take my time to convince others that methylation defects are not to be disregarded. My son went from struggling to make 2/3 word phrases using echolalia to making actual coherent statements we could understand in two weeks, just by adding a methylated b vitamin. His progress continued after we received blood work and urine work and added different supplements and did chelation therapy because methylation defects sometimes hinder your ability to detox heavy metals. Please do not dismiss MTHFR, or the other methylation gene mutations.

Dr. Stephanie Cave in Baton Rouge (functional medicine) can be a huge help if needed. She is highly knowledgeable in this area & has helped my family greatly.

Gary Brecka explained methylation the best that I’ve heard so far. Methylation defects can lead to MANY issues that are currently fixed by pharmaceuticals. The inability to properly methylate B vitamins can also make it very difficult or somewhat difficult to carry a pregnancy to term depending on the type of mutation you have. To repair that issue, you take methylfolate (in a methylated b-complex) instead of folate and avoid folic acid.
If you simply diagnose a genetic mutation and tell the patient to begin supplementing with methylated B vitamins and some other precursor vitamins for proper neurotransmitter pathway functions that would take lots of $$$$$$ out of the system.
I think the reason MTHFR isn’t taken seriously yet is because it doesn’t affect everyone exactly the same way… and because it wouldn’t turn a profit for pharma.
