Pretty much this.

Partner is a recent phenomena to cover all the freakshows out there.

If I hear partner I assume they are gay.

i use "spousal equivalent." her daughter calls me her "pseudo-stepdad." 68 is a little old for having a girlfriend. "long term companion" will probably be her title in the obit.

SWMBO is the most accurate

Straight folks use this from time to time.

I find that other cultures and countries use diff terms.

Like partner instead of spouse. Even though they are a hetero couple.

But then again I was at an LSU watch party at a friend's house and was talking to this guy and he brought up his partner. I just thought business partner but he was actually talking about his boyfriend.

So there you go.

Had a guy join our department last year and he kept referring to his partner when we interviewed him and since in all discussions.

I assumed he was gay based on that, but I don’t act any differently around gay people so no biggie. Blew my mind when he mentioned her name months later and I was like “what?” She is also his fiancée, so I am not sure why he would not just call her that.

Cali people.

frick the FBI. The only thing they’re worried about is raiding homes of people who took a selfie at Leatherface Pelosi’s desk.

Yes. If not literally gay, then gay in every other way.

Just like if someone dies and there's no cause of death listed, I immediately assume it's heroin or fentanyl.

I just don't like that word. When I hear it, it makes me want to go Dr. Laura on the person I'm talking to and ask for a ring and a date.

I either refer to my wife as “my first wife” or “my ex girlfriend”.
