Especially if he walked close enough to her for her to recognize that he had bushy eyebrows. Like someone else said, I'm sure they were all dead at that point, but still. Girl doesn't call police, and then what, 7 hours passes before the 911 call is made? There's no way she was in her right state of mind.
Also, it's always been reported that the two surviving roommates were on the bottom floor, but clearly one was on the second floor. Talk about lucky.
Its going to be very interesting why the two girls were left alive.
ETA: My bad I hadn't read the affidavit and didn't realize all the details of the girls eye witness account were in there

Yea, I mean, this is going to need some sort of explanation.

maybe all the shite people were dumping on the investigation was unfounded.

Got the sheath part half right.
From the affidavit, the sheath was found on the bed next to Madison Mogen's body. A single source of male DNA was recovered from the button snap of the knife.
Pretty close though.
If he hadn't left it, I don't think he would have been caught.

I’m just amazed at this guy’s stupidity. He was what a phd criminal justice student? Surely he would have seen any of the dozens of forensic style tv shows highlighting criminal stupidity as well read about or discussed these topics in any number of classes. If you take any piece of knowledge from any of that regarding committing criminal activity it’s leave your phone at home. He couldn’t even do that, putting himself at the scene or in the area dozens of times.

so did they basically know he was the killer early on but publicly acted clueless while building up their case on him?
I don't know if they knew it was him, but it sounds like they had quite a bit of evidence they were organizing. Whereas the police were very quiet and acted fairly clueless.

Girls that survived were drunk and saw a guy in a ski mask or beanie which is very normal for a november in Idaho.
Did we read the same shite? The girl definitely knew it wasn’t some normal dude there for a party.

Also of note, the affidavit says his plate was caught on camera in Colorado on Dec 13th. The WSU shooting was on the 14th. So why on the 15th did his dad bring it up to the officer and act like they were leaving because of that. They left a full day ahead of it.

I didn't read the affidavit so if what you said is true, then my bad. And damn.
Given that, typical college drunk college girl. Not surprising at all.

Maybe moving 1700 miles away to bum frick Idaho was part of his plan all along. Commit a quadruple homicide and then disappear back home to Pennsylvania. From the looks of it he was stalking this house for months which if this was his first semester there he really hit the ground running in terms of trying to pull this crime off.

You probably should.

Definitely not. The fact she didn’t call until the next morning considering what she saw and felt is extremely extremely extremely odd.

Just read the entire affidavit. They have his arse six ways to Sunday. They were on him since Thanksgiving. Obvious the traffic stops were part of surveillance.
Awesome police work here. Anyone who keeps spouting how smart this guy was needs to jump off a bridge.
I hope they have will to give him death.

Beanie yes, ski mask....no.
Eta....watch the video of the 4 kids that were stopped nearby. Not one is wearing a beanie and they aren't bundled up. Why? Because they're used to it.
You know how you spot a transplant in the Pac NW? They use an umbrella.

Again, if the only uncontaminated DNA he left at the scene was on the button of the sheeth...he was very close to getting away with it because they wouldn't have known to look at his cell phone activity.

I think one of the biggest outstanding concerns is whether the evidence will hold up in court. For example, the DNA on the sheath at the crime scene seems like the nail in the coffin for the perp, however, the defense will likely try to argue that the Moscow PD contaminated the crime scene due to their inexperience with this type of crime and/or there were issues with the chain of custody in regard to the DNA sample. If the defense finds evidence to suggest the DNA sample was compromised, such evidence may be deemed inadmissible. Admittedly that's only one piece of the puzzle tying him to the crime scene, but it's a big one.
Unless and until the trial actually happens, it's tough to know if mistakes were made that jeopardize the entire case (I mean, look at what happened as a result of sloppy police work in the OJ case).

All I can think is that maybe she was drunk and in her panicked state, she just passed out/fainted or something.
I don't know, it's really hard to reconcile the timing here.

They were onto him on November 29th when he was connected with a vehicle that matched the description, they then looked back at his previous encounters with law enforcement and found his cell phone number. From there they were able to determine his location on the night of the murders. The DNA is the nail in the coffin, but there were onto him before that.
