Yes, I remember. I remember also that happened when I was a little kid maybe before the new bridge. But I remember seeing very large blocks of ice all across the river.

That was a rough time for everyone. Icebergs notwithstanding.

If I recall there was a big ship that hit it. I remember a story about this girl named Rose who met some dude on the ship then she left the dude to die while she survived.
He only died because Rose wouldn’t give him headboard, but she sure blew that whistle to get herself off.

Ice or “ice bergs” definitely made their way down the river to south Louisiana I believe in 1989 during the cold spell that tonight should rival.

I remember that 84 weather. I slept next to the floor furnace in the hallway of our house. It was nuts how cold it was and how long it lasted.

Given the temperature of the Mississippi river at BR, I doubt this is possible.

I was on the river at that time, when the ice did come down the Mississippi River. It was around 1980's.
Oh, the distance from the new bridge in BTR from the Gulf Of America. By water, 230 miles, from the Southwest Pass. Most ships take 24 hrs. from entry of the river to BTR.
