How common is this? I heard a loud metallic bang today. Walked around the house to see if a gutter fell. Kinda sounded like that. Didn’t see anything but then I noticed this. Ridge vent looks like it cracked/popped out. Temp change cause this? Roofer is coming Monday. Original roof on a 20yo house so I know what’s next.

if these roofers are southern based then I'd take what they say with a grain of salt. They could probably tell you what an ice dam is but couldn't describe how they form.

They just want your business next week.

8 on 12. Steep enough that its mega sketchy to walk on.

I'm not worried about it. If it does leak, it'll leak into the soffit and I don't care about that. Not enough to go try busting all that shite off. Up past the soffit I can see the tops of the ridges through the snow.

I cleaned my roof today. Now I have tennis elbow from pushing and dragging snow all day.

I have a very steep roof. There is an area of concern about 25 ft up towards top of roof but Ive done all ive can.

What will be will be at this point.

Yeah that's where I'm at

My roof is waaaaay steeper than the picture posted just alittle while ago. All the snow is gone on the south and southwest portions, but not on my east and north facing portions...most of that stuff hardly melted.

With the way the sun goes above my house in the winter and how much of a shadow my tall and steep triangular roof produces on the north side, I'm actually wondering how long it will take

I’ve done all I can do for first floor but have a second story that I’m obviously not walking on right now, I can see to the soffit vents and not see water leaking so far. Should be good?

You better tell that to everyone who tarps their houses with it after a storm

Synthetic roof felt is very water-resistant

Quick bump

It's 41' in NOLA now and the snow is melting but I've still got a bunch on the roof. I can't easily reach the roof by ladder, is it safe to spray water from the hose to help the process? I'm primarily trying to help the side of the house that is shaded by a tree.

Okay...so I have LVP flooring. Went to the bathroom in socks. Part of sock was wet. Didn't think much of it I must have spilled some water or some ice might have melted

Suddenly start seeing water coming up from under the floor in spots near the ac return. Line has plugged up there before and done same thing. But AC hasn't been running and AC guy doesn't think it's that. Cursory examination of attic doesn't seem to show any major leaks

Is this that snow leak stuff?

metal roofing

I'm a fan of metal roofs and have it on my own home. But it can ice dam and leak just like an shingle roof unless extra steps are taken. On 95% of metal roofs installed in the south, those steps aren't done. Even as great as standing seam metals roofs are, they will leak like a seive if you dam up water 2" high.
