I drive a 13 year old Toyota built in America that has 175000 miles on it and will probably go for another 10-15 years. The problem is where it is manufactured, it is what is being manufactured.

I drive a 15 year old Honda Accord with 270,000 miles on it. Definitely plan on making it to 300,000 miles minimum (which would essentially be another 2 years), but honestly, with the way the car market is, I may just keep it going indefinitely.
Even replacing a transmission or rebuilding an engine is cheaper than these new vehicles.
Part of me is also interested to see what happens with electric vehicles. If that technology becomes more main stream, I'll buy a Tesla eventually and just keep a beater ICE vehicle for out of town trips.

Toyota builds the least comfortable truck known to man.
How they can make comfortable cars and not realize that people that drive many miles will choose a comfortable vehicle is mind boggling
Not hating on Toyota, great engineering in their trucks but full size F-150, Silverado, and Ram kick their arse in the comfort area, and it matters

Enjoy paying finance charges on a used vehicle vs getting a free loan on a new ride, Dave Ramsey
Dave Ramsey would have you walk and save for a beater car you pay cash for before doing any financing on a vehicle even at 0%.
Only financing Dave is into are mortgages for a home. But the fallacy of Dave’s plan is that you have no credit history to show to be eligible for a mortgage, and you have to do manual underwriting to determine your credit qualifications for a mortgage.

Toyota has made great trucks in San Antonio, they just need to go back to the V8 that was in last generations Tundra.

USA corporations have CEO's making 300 times what the lowest employee makes.
This line always gets trotted out and it’s always ridiculous. Companies can and should get to decide what each employee is worth and pay them accordingly. Let the market and shareholders decide if it’s too much. If the floor sweeper thinks he’s not getting paid enough he’s free to go sweep the floors at Jeep and potentially make more money.
And to point to Japan’s way of doing something related to an economy and suggest it’s the best way of doing something is laughable.

Over the past decade, the U.S. economy has grown significantly faster and expanded its global economic lead, while Japan has experienced sluggish growth, a weak yen, and a shrinking population

Ex wife bought a 19’ platinum Expedition, 84k sticker I believe and the extended warranty to 100k miles.
Warranty just ended 4 months ago.
That's insane. 84k for an expedition. I would never buy an expedition.
I'm sure you tried to tell her not to buy it but that's probably why she is your ex wife.

quote:Planned obsolescence has been a shitty American business model for over 100 years. Unions suck, but don't blame them for the overall shittiness of American cars.
which has become a breeding ground for entitlement, added costs, and unreliability passed on to the consumer…. Why? Because unionized employees can produce questionable quality without recourse.

I’m a CPA who does tax planning.
And every day, I educate business owners like you about dumb economically it is to spend $100,000 to save $40,000.
Now if you need the new vehicle, bonus depreciation is great. It’s amazing.
But spending more than twice as much as you save in taxes on assets you don’t need and that don’t provide value is a big reason why so many small business fail.

Ramsey has been pretty upfront about the fact that people who only borrow for a house will likely need traditional underwriting and finding banks to do that is becoming more of a challenge.

There’s no such thing as 0%. You’re subsidizing it with the purchase price.
I’m not sure how true this still is.
When you can get a brand new vehicle for not much more cash price than a 2 year version of that vehicle. The additional cost is two years of use… not financing up charges.
We recently bought a new vehicle and the 0 interest saved more money than the cash back offer.

So if you’re a baw that drives a truck, buy used Toyotas until Toyota gets their shite together and moves production to Japan.
While I understand and appreciate this, I can’t bring myself to pay the prices that even used Toyotas cost. If my budget is $40k for a 4Runner, that gets me a middle of the road 23-24 with 100K miles on it. It actually gets even worse if your budget is around $15-20K. Then you get a 2013 with 210,000 miles on it. I get it- they last, but the resale market on them is stupid and I just can’t do it.

I also have 187,000 on my Tundra, so I’m not arguing against the quality of a pre-2022 Tundra
