I'm 45 and have not had them. I know 4 people who have had them before they were 35.

I had it at 36. I went to a walk in clinic to get it diagnosed and the doctor was also just getting over shingles. I had it on my back, his was in his head and got into his eye. He lost vision in that eye. Not exactly what I was looking to hear from the doc!

I had it twice. Once around 30 and once around 35. I am 37 now and have had the vaccine.

Stress triggers shingles.

Both times I have had it was right after bass fishing tournaments in the early summer where I had been fishing for five plus days in a row, getting dehydrated daily. I think physical stress will do it as well.

I'm almost 40. I know zero people that have had it under 45. I guess that makes me a weirdo. Or maybe it's a Louisiana thing. Guess I need to get that chickenpox/shingles vaccine.

. The vaccine which has been around 20 years or so changed that whole formula and it can be avoided now. A different world with a different cost-benefit analysis pre-vaccine

There was a study done about 5 years after the vaccine came out that showed a marked uptick in shingles cases. Pre vaccine it was something like 0.36% of adults got shingles. 5 years into vaccine, it was over 3%. Shingles vaccine commercials now say 1 in 3 adults.

So yes, the cost-benefit analysis has changed to more chicken pox vaccines sold means the need for more shingles vaccines.

Those moms do seem to have known what they were doing.

I had shingles about 5-6 years ago in my late 20’s. Was in my hip but wasn’t that bad, just felt weird. My Doc gave me some pills and it cleared up in about a week. Thought I got bit by chiggers or something originally being in the woods turkey hunting.

I had it in my early 20's. Had it around my waist, and I was working at UPS loading and unloading trucks. It was some of the worst pain I have experienced in my life, so I guess overall I have been fortunate.

I don't wish shingles on anyone.

Got it in my twenties while I was working at a children's museum. I think you gotta be exposed to the chicken pox. Lots of people in their thirties see have kids or neices/nephews that are exposed to it.

Vwry very few of the adults getting shingles now ever had the chicken pox vaccine. You realize that right?

Bless you are under 27 you almost certainly did not get it. So these 1 in 3 adults you see getting shingles did not have the chicken pox vaccine, they had actual chickenpox

I had it for a short time in my early 40s. Most stressful job situation I have ever had. I thought I just pulled a muscle in my back but my wife noticed it on my back. Hurt for about a month and then went away.

Just anecdotal coincidences and there's no actual increase in shingles in people under 55?

Had it around 29-30 yrs old. Begged the Dr. to give me the vaccine afterwards but they refused as I am younger than 50.

One of the most painful experiences of my life. Couldn't find a Dermatologist appt to save my life and ended up just seeing an internist as they were first available.

Valtrex early on is the only thing you can due to depress it somewhat

Yeah, she’s a moron.

Chickenpox vaccine wasn’t widely available in the US until the mid to late 90s. So the first generation to actually have the vaccine is likely in their late 20s now (getting the first shot at 12 months).

Anyone older than that is more susceptible to shingles because they almost certainly had chicken pox as a kid. And I don’t believe they recommend the shingles vaccine until you’re 50.

I'm older than many of you, and I do know guys who came down with Shingles. In most cases they had a very stressful happening and within a week, Shingles emerged close to their spines.
Most were around fifty, one was in his late 60's.

Be forewarned, the second shot knocks you on your arse. I was out for a good 36 hours afterwards. But it’s still better than getting the shingles
