As did I. Forehead and scalp. It sucked. Got misdiagnosed the first trip to the DR, second time they figured it out, but by then it was too late for any treatment other than painkillers, which did nothing.

I had it at 30. Wasn’t bad but still.
Knew several others that had it during covid. Vaxxed and unvaxxed.
I am on an immunosuppressant which likely triggered mine.

I had them at 27. Happened a month after I got married. They were on my optic nerve and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Mine was worse because I didn't catch it until it was in complete flare up. I had a headache for about 2 weeks and thought it was teeth or muscle or sinuses. Then it friggin exploded in my head. Lost half my eyesight in that eye and even 25 years later that eye still gets red when I'm tired or stressed.

FWIW, I did have multiple questionable vaccines while in the Navy... but But more than likely it was because I was broke, recently married and trying to get used to life.

Deciding when to get a shingles vaccine is far from an easy choice. It's not like it's effective forever. Most studies cite 5-8 years as being the duration it's most effective.

Would you rather have shingles when you're in your 40s or 50s when you still have some ability to deal with illnesses? Or in your 70s after the vaccine has completely lost its ability to protect you? It's not like you can just go and get another endless series of ineffective boosters like you can for other issues that advertise heavily to those easily persuaded.

Get the chicken pox vaccine and in theory you can't get shingles.

It's the opposite where I live. Most of the younger people building still use shingles. The older people go with metal roofs when they do a replacement. Those standing seam metal roofs actually look pretty good but you definitely need a competent installer.

I had chicken pox when I was little, so I'm sure I'm at risk for this eventually. It sounds absolutely miserable.

More than 20 years .. my oldest child is 30 and he got it at maybe 4 or so years old. It had just come out.

So .. for those who are vaccinated for varicella (chickenpox), is shingles never going to happen?

So if those with varicella vaccine often end up with shingles why take varicella vaccine? I was 3 when I had chickenpox and that’s all I remember.
