Some researchers speculate that an increase in shingles may be attributed to the lack of exposure to wild varicella-zoster virus. As their immunity wanes over time, adults aren't given a natural "boost" by being exposed to children who have chickenpox.
This. In the past, people got chickenpox as a child. They were exposed to the virus probably yearly, because future generations of children got chickenpox. These exposures kept their immunity up, and only elderly or immunocompromised adults got shingles.
Now, all the kids are vaccinated against chickenpox. Adults who had chickenpox as a child don’t have those yearly immunity boosters, so they get shingles at younger ages. This phenomenon may end as those adults (gen x/older millennials and older) die off. Or, we may start getting pushed to get the shingles vaccine at an earlier age. Vaccine begets the need for more vaccine.
It will be interesting to see if people who were vaccinated against chickenpox develop shingles later in life. “They” think they probably won’t, thus eliminating the need for a shingles vaccine. But they don’t really know.
I would still recommend getting your kids the chickenpox vaccine. As stated above, getting chickenpox for the first time as an adult is very dangerous. Also, back in the day, a small percentage of kids did actually die from chickenpox.

Exactly why those chicken pox exposure “parties” were incredibly stupid.

At that time, though, there was no vaccine. Your chances were a whole lot better if you got it as a kid. My sister and I had it in elementary and it was pretty mild. Our uncle was visiting and he apparently missed it as a kid. He was so sick, he had to drop out of college. He never went back and he might still blame us.

I had shingles when I was 42.
Woke up with a discoloration and slight bumps on my face. I went to the doctor that morning. Gave me anti viral meds. Woke up the next morning and it was gone.
He said I went in at the right time. Most people wait and it gets worse.

The first shingles vaccine made me feel crappy enough that it was hard to force myself to go get the second one. I did got get the second one and it was a bitch too. But getting shingles is so much worse according to people I know that have had it.

I don't think the effects of the vaccine (good or bad) are long-lasting.
Gene therapy last forever

I had it in December of 2020. I’m 31 now. According to my doctor, it can be triggered by stress. I was on the verge of losing my job at the time and working crazy hours trying to make everything work. I had also just bought a fixed-upper house and the repairs had it in a barely livable state that I was occupying. So, financial trouble, career trouble, turbulent home environment, etc resulted in a case of shingles that I ignored until it became too painful to ignore. The medicine to treat it put me on my arse for a week.
I ended up losing that job 2 months later.

Unless things have changed, you can't even get the vaccine until you are 60 yrs old.

I think op is implying that the Covid vaccine could be causing more young people to develop shingles. I don’t think there is a link between the two. I think it is more of a stress response caused by these incredibly unusual social and economic conditions which place an inordinate amount of stress on young adults.

The mrna vaccines devastate the immune systems of many who take them and it allows old illnesses or injuries to resurfac
The one person I know with Shingles is in her 60s. She was a masked covidian, that was at least double boosted.
