I don’t blame them at all. If you don’t have to deal with bitchy women in the office you probably have to deal with a shite boss. No boss for driving uber or door dash, just work when you need money. When you factor in the wear and tear on your car I’m not sure it is really the best thing to do though.

4.2% inflation, gas is $4.00 dollars a gallon and people are forced to take jobs that increase wear and tear on their only assets. Great job america
Aww, boo-hoo life isn't always cake. Crying about people taking these jobs, considering what they had to do throughout the history of this country, is really, really, soft.

Funny enough AI is already taking these uber jobs. As soon as the companies realize they can just get employees at the store or restaurant to put the food inside the car it is really over.

If you think we pay a lot for gas just look at other countries.

It's not the amount you're paying in and of itself, it's the sudden increase by 20-30%+ in the price that is a problem. People budget for fuel and when the cost increases at these levels for an extended period of time it fricks peoples budgets and they start defaulting on other obligations. This is a recognized phenomenon.

That's the thing that's the most insidious. I can't prove this but I suspect whatever they bring in doesn't cover the cost of gas, maintenance, and depreciation on the car.

I've noticed the number of white walmart workers go up in the past couple years. Some look the part of a walmart worker and others that are older look normal.

that’s the thing, I’m seeing way more older people lately. Deeply troubling

They were bad at saving then. Boomers had way too good of an economy to be broke in retirement.

I think many of those jobs are taken by people who aren't smart enough to realize how much it costs to use their own car. They just ignore that part and focus on what they make in a week

Not unlike people who opt for gig jobs that 1099 them and they don't consider how much normal job benefits "cost" until you have to pay them yourself. A rule of thumb is you need to make 50% more if 1099'd than at a w2 job to equal out.

I’m including 30/40/50 year olds when I say older. Seeing a 21 year old doing this isn’t that shocking

The end is near

Cost of living is certainty driving this, but it's pretty easy work that doesn't use a lot of brainpower. No annoying boss, work when you want to. Good and pleasant delivery people can get really good tips.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to doing it to bridge between retirement and social security.

People, get off your arse , make dinner, and make a trip to the grocery store, instead of getting it delivered. People are freaking lazy that spend $30 to have a hamburger from Wendy's via door dash.

Huh?

Way back when Uber started, I was living in Baton Rouge and my drivers were mostly white.

Now getting a cab was a different story. I got pulled over in the cab with a black driver. But he was speeding.
