That's the signal that we are near a bottom. Things are gonna turn around.

Here we go again. Younger generations bitching how hard they have it. No you don’t.

Way back when Uber started, I was living in Baton Rouge and my drivers were mostly white.

Where do you live? This is not a new phenomenon.

I had an older late 50s white lady deliver an order from the local Walmart and was shocked as well. She even left a thank you note inside the bag with my items. The end is near indeed.

When I went back to school I was making $1500+ a weekend doing gig work. Mostly uber and the defunct waitr. Hell, I had some $1000+ nights on campus. Game days and party holidays were solid (Halloween, St. Patricks, etc). I had savings but I didn't want to burn through it so fast, I had a year of working for free ahead of me.
You have to drive at peak surge times to do that, and not take bad rides, but the apps will pressure you to take everything but when the apps are surging there are not enough people driving for them to be selective. I'd drive like 9p to 2-3a on Friday, same on Saturday if there wasn't a game. It was rare I had over 15 hours, $100 an hour was very doable.

Noticing the opposite in ATL. Hard to come by a gig worker who isn't cracked out.
I lived here for 20 years. I’m back in a hotel room across from my office tonight for my period reminder of what a shite hole this place has become. Outside smells like weed everywhere I go, from downtown the battery. It isn’t that fresh smell either. Just a stale danky nast.

If you’re working a people transport/food delivery position, it’s likely your vehicle is a liability unless you’re an LLC, S-Corp, etc

Those older Uber and DoorDash guys are just scoping out your shut-in moms, so be nice to your future stepfather.

I have recently seen some retirees who are working as delivery drivers. Some said they were bored while others just want some play money.
Only saw a few younger ones who seem to have just planned very poorly and are stuck in that spiral.
And then there the ones with terrible teeth and strange skin rashes...

quote: I do Uber Eats 6-10 hours a week. Only work weekend nights from about 5:30-8:00. If orders are good, I’ll sometimes work till 9:00. If orders are shitty, I’ll sign off at 7:00. 90% of my orders are Metairie east of Transcontinental and Lakeview up to the Orleans Canal. Always take orders paying at least $2 a mile. I’ll take a well paying order to Harahan/ River Ridge and occasionally to Kenner. I try not to deliver to any apartment complexes. After doing it awhile you learn the restaurants to stay away from because they always make you wait for the order. I’m able to average $20-$40 an hour. And I don’t work in the rain, like tonight. I’ll add to my OP to mention another Uber Eats driver I met because we are often picking up at the same restaurants. This guy is a retired staff attorney from the Louisiana AG office and he told me when he retired he started doing Uber Eats to get out of the house. He could have found side gig work doing something with his attorney experience but he says that he was tired of the law and wanted to do something different. He said he likes listening to classical music and he drives and delivers while listening to his music. He said any money he makes he gives to a granddaughter that goes to LSU so she has spending money. I don’t think he needs the money as I once went to his house in River Ridge and it is easily a $500 K house. And he recently went to Italy for two weeks. Just an example that it takes all kinds to do side gigs.
I posted this in a thread a few weeks ago about doing side gigs. Seems pertinent to this thread.
