Nope. I'm just the guy who has to deal with the shite when idiots fall for it.

Today it was several spoofed emails to our accounting and HR departments wanting to change direct deposit information.

I don’t value the opinion of someone who doesn’t understand what the word guarantee means.

That is a very popular one right now. Our bank warned us about that one going around. The gift card scam is real as our insurance rep told us stories of companies getting scammed.

I got a similar email the other day asking for iTunes gift cards. It looked legit as hell. And to make it seem even more legit, my boss had company in from out of town, so I assumed they were gifts for them.

Anyway, I replied to the email and figured out it was a scam. I kept going back and forth with them about being at the gym and would send them later. They emailed me later asking about them and I sent them a picture of a naked guy with a huge dick bench pressing.

Never heard back from them.

I received an email from my boss with his with his e-signature (MD, Department head etc..). He said he is in meeting and needed me to get him $1700 worth of google gift cards and and send it to him urgently, which is what I did. Turned out to be a scammer.

Hahahaha I know you aren't full of shite because this happened at my company

Thankfully no purchases were made

Really? What background do you have to make such an absurd claim? The OP acted in good faith, and was the victim of a form of credit card/wire fraud. I've used this method of somewhat widely distributed cc'd letters to key executives and authorities with great success on my own behalf and for others. And in cases that lawyers threw their little hands up and declared were hopeless.

He bought the cards himself using his credit card. He made that choice. How have you gotten a reimbursement for something like this? I'd like to know in case I run into some other person who falls for a scam like this.

The only shite I've ever fricked up was to click on a link because I was too busy and not really paying attention.

Now, this type of shite that requires you to actually go out of your way and do shite, along with the sense of urgency are pretty easy to sniff out.

And I would expect everyone to know the typical email tone of their boss. And why the frick would he EMAIL it if it's that urgent?

We had a similar email going around the company requesting PlayStation gift cards. Very convincing.
