I still don't understand how someone would think their boss needed $1700 in google gift cards? At no point did you think, does he not have any money? Why does the money he's requesting need to only be in google gift cards? Why did my boss email me this request instead of just doing it himself?
It's some form of "I'm in a meeting and don't have time to do this, we need these cards for clients, can you go get them right now it's an emergency."
Odd last minute shite like this happens all the time here where I work due to the nature of the business.
It's just preying on human nature and the business climate here in this country. And as I've said before, it's highly effective.
Everyone here is acting like OP is some huge dumbass, but I guarantee many here would fall for it. Especially the better crafted ones.

Anyone who spends $1700 of their own money on a business expense based on an email is a huge dumbass. Especially when the email address was faked.
It takes very little thought or action to prove it's actually your boss. Just walk by his office ffs. Or text. If he can email in a meeting, he can text.

Do you validate the sender address for every single email you open? There is a reason why most bigger businesses append "External" or something similar to all subject lines of emails coming from outside the corporate network. People don't check that shite, and it's why this type of scam works very, very well.

What if your boss is out of town, or works in a different office? What if it was your boss's boss that you don't have personal number to text?
I've seen both of the above just here in my firm alone. Multiple times.

If it's asking me to spend $1700 of my own money? Uh yeah.

Excuses. I'm not doing shite without confirmation in person or on the phone. Trusting an email alone is for complete idiots.

Is management asking employees for over a thousand dollars in gift cards a common practice at your company or something?
It's a ridiculous request in pretty much any workplace setting and it's even more ridiculous to not confirm a request like this before buying gift cards with your own money. I'm not sure why this is even a debate

If someone asks me to spend $1,700 of my money for business reasons, then yeah, I'm validating the address and taking many more steps.

You can shop on Goolge much like Amazon.

Which should be even more of a red flag as opposed to someone asking for a gift card for a specific item or service.

The Dumbing down of this country is nearing completion.

It's a debate because some of you think this shite doesn't work thousands of times a day, every day.

Has he addressed the “comma” in his boss’ email? Cause that’s bullshite and makes this whole thing scream fake
Posted on 5/2/19 at 11:24 am to Centinel
What do you think the % is of how many times this works vs doesn't?

If it asks me to click on a link or perform an action involving money, yes. Every. Single. One. If you don’t you are an idiot.

Pro tip... If an African Prince wants you to store some money for him until the uprising in his country subsides... Don't do it!!
