No one said that homeschooled kids aren’t smart, but they are definitely socially retarded and don’t get to experience the “socialization” that everyone else does, even including the bad. They get out into the real world and you can see them from a mile away. I remember when my son played athletics as a kid and even into high school, when we had a Homeschooled kid on the team he would never fit in with the other kids. That’s GOT to be difficult on a kid, emotionally and mentally.

What are the thoughts on online high school - like Penn Foster or Acellus or the like?

And the parents are probably the biggest factor.

Always.
The guys who wrote the Federalist papers were educated before public schools.
The guys who write rap songs are educated in public schools.
But in both cases, the parents were the ultimate deciding factor in whether their children would be properly educated.

I thought my sister and her husband were crazy for home-schooling their kids in the 00s. They both went to a private school when the older son was in high school and the younger in junior high. Both were straight-A students, the younger one used to get frustrated because his classmates couldn't seem to understand that getting classwork done during free time THEN fricking off was a lot better than fricking off first then trying to gear back up to get things done (read: poor time-management skills because that isn't taught in most schools).
Both kids have blown through college and proven me wrong about their choice to home school.

Tweets like this go around all the time. Stories that include quotes and are very lomg for a tweet. Not sure why anyone would believe them
This is the OT, a lot of these people still watch Fox 'news' and spew it as the gospel. Lots of underdeveloped minds on this site.

Public teachers are fighting a losing battle. They have no help from parents. And most money is spent on non necessary administration spending.
My wife is an elementary school teacher and teaches at the school I went to as a kid. When I was there, the admin consisted of a principal, a vice principal, and secretary. Now, they have like a dozen admin people on staff, maybe more. I've lost count at this point. That doesn't even count all of the other teaching assistants or whatever they're called that work one-on-one with kids with IEPs, which is like 25% of the students these days.
