I just have freakish road stamina...or I did. I don’t think I would try it again. Too old I guess. The think alone makes me cringe. I don’t think I could make it half way before stopping for the night. I used to leave at about 6 pm so the first leg was the deep night shift. When I went the “Dallas” way, I would sometimes hit fort worth by sunrise. Once when I was headed from Vegas to New Orleans I decided to stop in Austin to,check out the city. Going through the area north flagstaff at night is absolutely haunting. The little canyons and curves do tricky things to your head lights. Most stressed I’ve been other than driving through nowhere Texas at night in a down pour on a single lane road. Sometimes the lighting was the only way to tell if I was still in my Lane. Would have pulled over, but there were no road lights and visibility was probably less than 10%. I thought it was more dangerous to stop.

A couple times I was on my own. Twice I had my two retrievers. Those were my favorite trips. Once I was with my wife and once with my dad. I would pay a heavy price to be able to make that trip again. I miss him greatly.

20 hours on a motorcycle. Tucson, Arizona to Ruston. 1350 miles. I could have made it a lot quicker, but damn it was hard to get back on that back after every stop. That was probably my 10th day in row riding.

Yea, definitely wouldnt do it again. It was worth it though. Didnt have shite to do or be back for so passed through South Bend on the way back and watched ND vs Texas at Corby's. The bar from "Rudy". Spent the night there and had a blast waking around campus the next day.

I have driven a vehicle in every US state (from the Dalton Highway in Alaska to the Overseas Highway in Florida and quite a bit in between) at least once and several of those drives have been pretty long (1,500-3,000 miles), but I haven't been on an epic road trip of several thousand miles because I have never started at home on any trip I have taken west of Dallas (starting from Alabama). I have always flown somewhere and rented a car.

It was kind of nerve racking from Flagstaff to Vegas

If that stretch was "nerve racking" for you then a trip on I-10 between San Antonio and Phoenix will send you to the funny farm.

You kids these days, smh.

Late 1960's, early 1970's my parents and grandparents would drive back and forth from Shreveport to Tampa, non stop, regularly. Interstates were a relatively new thing (remember me talking about Dad surveying for 1-20 to be constructed?) cars and pick-ups were huge land yachts that got about 12 mpg, ac was iffy or 4/60 (4 windows down @ 60mph). AM radio was about all there was, FM was high tech!
