My daughter is a Junior in High School, she has a 4.5* GPA, 40+ college credits... planning to get 31 more next year with a Associates of Science in Criminal Justice.

She has a 25 ACT.

She wants to go to Tulane or LSU for a eventual Law degree. What would yall recommend for the better path with that information?

was stunned at the lack of academic scholarships LSU gives. It’s basically TOPS and a few free rides. Whereas the other state schools offer supplements to TOPS I guess they would rather have students “paying” full rides via loans

Apparently a lot goes to giving money to out of state students which is a complete slap in the face to tax payers. We’re funding the school, but get 2nd tier status to out of state students. Pretty shitty when you consider most of us have also had to pay for our kids private education from k-12 as well.

I took classes at LSU, Southeastern, UL, Bama, and Nicholls.
Nicholls and Thibodaux was my favorite.
By a lot.

I'm going to be objective about Nicholls and Thibodaux. There's obviously not the same experience as SEC schools when it comes to sports events, local concerts, etc.
But if you want to go focus on getting your 4-year degree at a lower cost, the local food is good and the faculty members are accessible to students to talk about the classes.

Does Louisiana have a Republican legislature? Start blowing up their phones and emails until they do something about LSU and the state university system.

They’ve been claiming to be republican for awhile now to get elected, but they are really Democrats. The voters are too distracted and stupid to know the difference or what they actually vote for, so they just auto vote the R they are familiar with.

College classes while in high school are on 5 point scale as long as they have a "High School" equivalent, in our parish and I would assume for most of the state.
She is taking a few classes next year that will not fall under that rule. Regardless of how you feel about the "inflation" she will basically be a Junior to start at what ever college she decides to go to.

Do you think if a kid takes a "harder" class than another student they should get the same GPA credit, I believe thats what it comes down to?

And secondly, LSU still reserve the right to admit low test score students based on "holistic review" which is how a lot of the students who don't deserve to be at LSU will be at LSU.

How do you think most of the athletes get in?

Mine did the same a few years back.

I was glad… Hammond isn’t Mayberry, but I sleep better at night that she’s not running around BR at night!

ACT is literally the only way to tell if they are intelligent.

ACT measures education level while SAT better measures intelligence, but high scorers on the ACT usually possess above average intelligence while the converse is not always the case.

LSU is about quantity and $$$

Bama went this direction especially for out of state money. It has definitely hurt their quality. I do think you can do all 3 but you need you state education system to be good also. Most state universities are charged with educating their own citizens first and they need good quality students to choose from.

LSU's ACT requirement was 22 prior to this whole holistic admission BS. If you can't make at least a 22 on the ACT, you have no business being at LSU. Go somewhere else. And don't come at me with "my kid is smart but not a good test taker." Guess what, your kid is going to take hundreds of standardized tests at LSU, so admitting them otherwise is only setting them up for failure and money down the drain.

AI Overview:

The average ACT score for admitted students at LSU is 27–28, with the middle 50% of admitted applicants typically scoring between 24 and 30.
