Apparently a lot goes to giving money to out of state students which is a complete slap in the face to tax payers.
Yup. The state school should give priority to state residents.

AI Overview:
The average ACT score for admitted students at LSU is 27–28, with the middle 50% of admitted applicants typically scoring between 24 and 30.
AI must not know that in 2021 LSU went voluntary on ACT/SAT scores for admissions and scholarships going down to only 47% of the fall 2024 incoming freshman class submitting scores (2025 %s not published yet) and that in 2023 LSU started to use the “Super Score” in place of the composite score while still labeling it the composite score to compare to prior years. The Super Score takes a student’s best section scores across multiple ACT tests to then use to calculate the composite score/super score.
The switch to Super Scores in 2023 followed a dip in LSU’s ACT average in 2022 after 2021’s increase at the start of scores being voluntary.
Also on its website and likely in documents sent to prospective applicants LSU started to push what score would be beneficial to submit for admissions and LSU funded or controlled scholarships, and that below that score would not be helpful to submit. LSU was basically telling those with inflated GPAs not to submit scores lower than previous average while also pushing the submissions that would end up helping raise ACT scores. Even if TOPs required scores LSU would ignore them if the student chose test optional and to remove scores from any consideration.
quote:https://www.lsu.edu/admissions/apply/test-optional-faq.php
Historically, LSU’s average weighted GPA is 3.8, and the average test score is 28 (ACT) or 1260 (SAT). If a student’s super score falls at or above these averages, it is generally seen that their test score could benefit their application.
If a student’s GPA is at or above the LSU average, but test scores are not, it is recommended they apply test optional, waiving the test score requirement...
…Scholarships will continue to be reviewed in a holistic way, similar to the admissions evaluation. If a student chooses not to submit a test score as a part of this process, their application will still be reviewed for university-administered scholarships. Generally, students who fall in the top half of LSU’s applicant pool have historically qualified for scholarships.
Similar to admission, we consider a student’s curriculum rigor, grades, letter of recommendation, and class rank (if available). If test scores are selected to be included with the application, they will also be considered.
… Students applying for the LSU Ogden Honors College who elect to be test optional will be considered for admission and scholarships, including Stamps.
… TOPS (Taylor Opportunity Program for Students) is a state scholarship program for Louisiana residents. It is administered by the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA), a program of the Board of Regents, and is separate from LSU.
According to LOSFA, test scores are required to be reported to LOSFA for TOPS scholarship funding.
A student’s decision to be test optional at LSU does not remove their test scores from TOPS consideration, nor does it impact their ability to receive TOPS.
LSU’s increasing ACT scores under Tate were manufactured/manipulated.

LSU has built a business model that’s unsustainable unless they do away with these standards. The only way they keep operating as they are now is they hopefully start getting a larger influx from out of state kids from the NE

Hard to believe that statement.

Exactly. They're gonna have to keep the flood gates open. I don't see NE kids lining up for LSU. They seem to prefer Tulane much more than LSU.

Without a 6 figure donation, Tulane is out of the question with that.
Criminal justice is trashy.

$50K+ per year for Tulane, with a lower chance of passing the Bar. I’d pick LSU, tops in Bar passage rate for many years. If you want really cheap SULC is least expensive, but only 50% pass the Bar.
