A simple law requiring big trucks to stay in right lane at all times would fix the problem. Some other states have it in place.

People keep blaming trucks. I drive 12
Everyday and the problem is the people
Driving 100mph jumping from lane to lane.

Infinitely better than two trucks next to each other with one of them going 70.5mph

True way too many 18 wheelers.

A majority of these 18 wheelers should be back on the trains.

That would relieve some pressure on I-12.

If you could get through one sentence without exaggerating I might be more inclined to somewhat agree but there problem here is definitely you.

Not even the worst stretch of I12.

From the split to Denham, eastbound, on a weekday from 4:30-6:00PM can compete with any stretch of interstate, for the most congested, in the country.

They are doing this now in the Covington Madisonville area. Will it not continue west? What role does the federal government play in the expansion?

Pretty sure the goodbee/ HWY 1077 EXIT is where the expansion is ending.

Agree. I don’t live there but drive over frequently to visit family. Covington around Collins Blvd. looks like a dump and low class. Probably low income housing stuffed behind that Waffle House and then DR Horton and friends throwing up those cheap homes out there.

Re i12, it seems there are a lot more 18-wheelers than there used to be.

Weird melt. 12 is of course a bypass from Baton Rouge to the state line. It saves a lot of time. But Mandeville to Slidell might be these best spot of 12. You want real grief, take it from hammond to Baton Rouge. St Tammany is the best part of 12 outside the 12/10 interchange.

Maybe make sure your hooptie is up to snuff and you won't be pulled over all the time.

This.

And all the illegals towing three cars at 45 mph with nothing but kite string, inadequate brakes, and no insurance.

This state’s government and priority planning is absolute trash from the governor all the way down to the dog catcher.

I've never had a problem with that stretch.

Now going the other way to baton rouge is a different story.

quote:

It’s always rated right there at the top of the countries most dangerous roads

I doubt this.

As someone who is from the ATL area I75 is more dangerous and I believe the most dangerous in the country is I95.

And I10 is probably up there just because it stretches from Florida to California. But you are talking about 12, not 10.

quote:

The most dangerous highway in the U.S. is Interstate 95 (I-95).

quote:

Wyoming, New Mexico and South Carolina had the most vehicular crashes per 100,000 people

People love making shite up about Louisiana on this board.

And I20 has the second most fatalities per mile in the country. I10 isn't even on the top list.

So I95, I75, I20 all much more dangerous.

Not even close to how bad I-12 is in Livingston and the outskirts of EBR.

It's become a damn death trap. Averaging two fatalities a month. Last guy burned to death in his rig.

Correct! And looking at their phones.

People don't take driving seriously.

More lanes doesn't mean people will drive better. They'll still speed, look at their phones and drive drunk.

Mandeville cops have been on a fundraising drive since last November. Mandeville is making a tidy profit off the roads and people who use them. Florida between 59 & Causeway /190 has proven to be very lucrative.

Is that why Covington is looking so trashy once you exit St Tammany proper?
