This is probably one of the best ideas in this thread.

Society would break down. Liberals would all die. Trump voters would multiple and flourish.
Stuff like this is just silly. You know how many liberals are vegetarians? They can survive for months off just water and the crap they have stored at home. Plus nature lovers can go out and pick the essentials that most have no idea about. Its a huge myth that only "conservatives" love nature or how to live off the land..

First thing I do is pull the steaks out the freezer, marinate them in root beer, slather them down with mayo and have a nice last meal.

Interesting stories from someone who survived Sarajevo in the 90's. Biggest take away for me was lone wolves don't survive. I always thought I'd want to get out in the woods, but if you don't have a sizeable group, you're just prey to someone who does, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Just finished the book One Second After. The plot is an EMP is detonated over mainland US. Entire country instantly without all electronics. We are talking ALL electronics. Phones, modern cars, clocks, every single thing with a circuit board. Infrastructure will be down for months maybe years.
I started that audio book and deleted it one second after the attack hit. Okay not really. I got to the standoff with the stranded motorists on I-40.
That scenario is a pile of shite and would never happen or should I say an EMP isn't happening WITHOUT more nukes coming. Read up on the power required for an EMP and what the response would be to such an attack. They'd go hand in hand with live nukes(sea level detonation).
So a faux realistic book/movie about a lone EMP attack is bullshite.
BTW, as a fan of audio books and rarely complain about the narration, the narration of that book is fricking awful.

Steal a gas truck, and can I use a generator ?
Internal combustion engines without electric starts will work.
The lead character's MIL drives and Edsel and that's how they get around when the EMP hits.

Hoovies garage did a piece on this recently. He said that you need an old car and it needs to be diesel. Apparently gas goes bad quickly but diesel doesn't. He said some specific 70s or 80s mercedes (i forget which one) would be the best.

The police will run everything. They will be supplied by the government first. They already have the equipment and know how to fight as a group. Most importantly their communication network is run by generators.
NOPD never lost a gun battle during Katrina. They were undefeated. Police departments are way better prepared now.

The one scenario where I’d argue otherwise is if it is a long game scenario and they want to use a WMD against the US without it being immediately apparent who was the source.
Throwing a satellite carrying a specially designed nuke and detonating it years later might throw a fair amount of smokescreen on the topic

Even in such a scenario it’s doubtful it would 100% knock out the whole country, but if it did almost everyone is fricked unless you live on a ranch in remote Wyoming or something.
More likely would be a more localized event across a state or two. It would be a massive clusterfrick and people would die but it wouldn’t be apocalyptic.
Protecting the electrical grid is a major national security issue but it’s not *as* vulnerable, especially not on the scale you’re talking about, as some fear.

Everyone keeps posting that the EMP scenario is far fetched, and that might be true. But Earth being slammed by a large coronal mass ejection like the Carrington Event is not only possible, it absolutely will happen if given a long enough time scale. Hopefully by the time it happens, there will be sufficient safeguards invented.

True and they have made big strides in terms of monitoring and preparation for such a scenario. IIRC we’ll know 30-45 minutes before such a storm & can turn off systems before they’re hit. Not saying we’re “ready” or even close to it but we’re way better off than we were even 5 or 6 years ago when it would have almost totally blindsided us.

It would be a good time to have a boat and live on the coast.
