Some people will for sure but there are many people that can hunt, fish and scavenge. Plenty of rural land in this country for this too.
Land will be hunted clean in months. It cant sustain the millions of people that will be looking for food. The large population is sustained by massive transport systems that provide food. How do cattle get from Texas to the rest of the country? Corn from the Midwest? There are no cars, trains, or airplanes. Nothing

During Hurricane Katrina, the first night the power was off, people were already breaking into homes and looting. And that was in Ponchatoula. The police force was over whelmed and they ended up barricading the entrances from the interstate to keep the people from pouring in.
It would be Katrina on steroids. Atleast during Katrina we had cars, boats, generators, phones, etc. all that would be gone

Is the heating system controlled by electronics? I’m sure. If so then you would be pretty chilly.

You sure about that? What do you think controls the flow of gas?

Those with guns and ammo will have the power.
We will instantly have major body counts as people freak out.
It won't be pretty.

Combine resources with close friends who all have different skills. Travel in a group in 3-4 old model vehicles fully armed.
Going alone gets you killed. Head to a very rural area

I don’t think people understand how many areas of the country are over their carrying capacity.
There are small areas that produce the majority of the food for the country. Large crops will be wasted because they simply can’t get to their destinations.
I think people overestimate how much they could “live off the land”. Sure you could right now if it was just you. But when every single person is living off of the land every day resources run out fairly quickly

That's the plan. Although I'm now further away from home base so just getting there is now a life and death mission.

How will you get there with the resources you need?

No a very different book than alas. In that book the childish boy becomes the man. This one is a different from that front alone but is still a really good read

Lack of clean water would kill 80+% of the population within a month.

After Katrina the phones did not work (cell towers were down for weeks)
and gas was unavailable till the NG came. Stores, hospitals was looted and water was limited due to no power.

Fat people will be in great demand. Money will be useless. Gun control fans will realize the folly of their position.
The obesity crisis will be solved.
