This burst of convection rotating upshear and around the mid-levels (maybe around the low level center, but can't really tell without recon) is pretty indicative of a strengthening system. Repeated firing of this type of convection can speed up the organization of the inner core. Pretty big whiff by the globals as they were originally showing Idalia over the Yucatan right now, which would have prevented this kind of organization attempts.

Might run right up the mouth of crystal river.

I hope someone here has a manatee swimming in a flooded city street gif ready to go.

No.

Classic approach for a storm to fight shear and organize.

I was just watching the convective bursts originating over the peninsula. Interesting to watch them develop on land. They'll eventually be wrapped up.

Would this lead to a shift to the east or just some convection that will eventually get wrapped in to the current center?

Do not need a shift east. Worse for Tampa and possibly screws with LSU game

The hurricane models kept it mostly offshore and they’ve been pretty much in line between the Euro and the GFS.

Tropical Storm #Idalia is strengthening and getting better organized over the far northwest Caribbean Sea. A buoy near the center has observed a sustained wind of 42 mph, gusting 49 mph. Idalia will move north through the eastern Gulf as a hurricane on Tuesday.

That buoy near the center is now 45 mph, gusting 60 mph, with a pressure of 997 mb. Strengthening appears to be continuing.

I follow Levi only, pretty much because of the great explanatory videos. He is also always level-headed, and will say "this is likely to top out at a lower level hurricane, but yes there is a much smaller chance, if everything follows one or two possible paths, that it ends up a major hurricane."

Then I jump on the #idalia tag on twitter, and oh, boy, all the meteorologists who make their living livestreaming storms are selling the hell out of this one. I guess they have to with how relatively quiet the Atlantic has been this season. It just made me think as much as everyone loves to blame government for sensationalizing every threat and putting out "misinformation", capitalism and the mighty dollar is still undefeated in this arena.

Aren't you the same dude that would start threads every time there was a chance of rain a week away from any baseball game?

Well yeah, Levi has like 75k followers on YouTube and others have hundreds of thousands by posting worst case thumbnails, doomcanes, and predictions on model runs 10+ days out.

Definitely had a nice burst of convection this evening, signaling a strengthening storm.
